Solid device, better with rechargeables
Overall, this is a solid and reliable device. If you are opting for the WiFi version, I highly recommend investing an extra $20–$30 into a quality set of rechargeable AA batteries+charger right from the start. Since high-performance smart tech naturally draws power, having a second set ready for a quick 'hot-swap' every few months ensures you never have downtime. Installing took 20 min. Easy and fast.

Faulty unit but they helped
Ultraloq contacted me personally and helped resolve the issue. They were actually super nice, too. I likely just had bad luck and a faulty unit but I took a refund instead of a replacement. I see generally positive things from others. My experience: it worked for maybe the first night. It would drop network connection and then it would lose power within a day. It came with batteries and I though the low-battery indicator was a mistake, so I loaded brand new batteries and same thing; dead within a day. It would even give a green light but no buttons would work.

Worth the purchase
I bought this model for my front door and the basic one with keypad for my back door. So far they’ve both worked really well but family members struggle to get it working with their iPhones. Might be an iPhone issue because they recently make changes to home key and removed some functionality away from it. My hope is that they repair it on the next update. Otherwise a really solid deadbolt and quality seems top notch. I gave it 4 stars but only because I’m still figuring out the iPhone issue. Otherwise it would be 5 stars

Stands Behind Their Product
My NFC lock went on the fritz. Won’t get into the specifics, but I will say that U-Tec helped me determine that the lock was defective and sent me a replacement lock shortly thereafter. It’s nice to know a company stands behind their product.

Mine didn't work but the Company reached out to me and resolved it outside of the return window.
The app unlock works just fine, but the auto unlocked never works, and there’s a lag between the Apple key and unlocking for 139 bucks. It’s pretty disappointing would not recommend.

Set-up is time consuming
Physical installation of this lock went well. Configuration of the lock was difficult and took me HOURS. Documentation was limited and inaccurate, setting up NFC entry with both Android and iPhone was unintuitive. Updating firmware took long and failed multiple times. Lock only supports 2.4Ghz wifi which was a bit of a pain with mesh network. Honestly, the lock works fine now that it is set up but I didn't think it would take almost a whole day get it completely installed. If you are not technical and willing to experiment, or are using it in a very simple way (all Android devices or all iPhone) then you might want to consider other options. Customer service was very attentive so: 3 stars due to lock set-up trouble and plus 1 for solid customer support.

Just what you need in a door lock
I have been looking for Homekey capable locks for a while and didn’t think they struck a good balance between functionality, cost, and appearance until I found this one. The Lockly came close but it’s Homekey capable models could look better and are very pricey. At the end of the day, I found myself debating whether a fingerprint or a face scan are worth it. And at the chance of them being flakey even 10% of the time, the frustration would be intolerable. SoI wanted a model explicitly without those features. I figured, they can’t screw up Homekey and the plain old push the button codes will always work (not counting using the phone+app itself). And indeed the Ultraloq shines here. I’d call this lock a no frills as far as the alternatives go, and for all of its capabilities, it does them perfectly. The only complaint is that I’d follow the setup steps from the quick start quide or those presented in the app instead of the video linked from the QR code. I ended up having to reset the unit once I got HomeKit wedged. After a full reset (simply by removing the device from the U-Home app) and restarting the config finally got it. I even added it to the U-Home first and then to HomeKit with no trouble again. Although this was done after I had already performed a FW update.

The most unreliable and high maintenance locks
I purchased two of these locks. Each lock takes a whopping eight AA batteries, and the product notes that you should get at least 1000 locks. However, my batteries kept dying every 3 to 6 weeks. That means I’ve been replacing 16 batteries monthly. I contacted the company and they offered support, but it did not fix the situation. What’s more, one time I got locked out of the house because of a dead battery, but there was never a warning of a low battery rate. Another time I got locked out of the house because of a firmware update that was needed. The battery level showed medium when I looked on the app. I find I need to check the app weekly to see if firmware updates are needed. If the point of having these locks is to not have to carry around a physical key for inevitable backup, then it will fail you miserably. This lock demands more attention than necessary, costs a ton in battery replacement, and fails to perform the basic duty of entry into the home and locking the door behind you with any amount of reliability. UPDATE: after (literally) months of dealing with customer service, I was finally issued a refund. I added a star for resolving the issue, but I can't say it was an easy process.

I have been wanting something using Apple Home key and looks good. This lock was easy to install and get going. You do need to have a proper 2.4 ghz network in your home. I created a separate home network for my 2.4ghz devices and it has kept the connection just fine that way. I only wish I could get my Apple Watch to use the express pass feature. I still have to double click the watch button and select the key to make it work. It’s my own problem and not ULTRALOQ. My phone does it great and my son’s watch works with the express pass. Lastly, I had a couple of issues that turned out to be user error. The company was great about resolving my problems and their support was fast and helpful.

My first smart deadbolt. I replaced a normal key only deadbolt to put this in and I have to preface by saying as I often do on reviews which involve a screwdriver :P that I am not into DIY and feel like I'm hopeless at it. That said, this was an absolute piece of cake. If you have an existing standard deadbolt then this install is single digit minutes if you know what you're doing. I was taking my time - even reading the instructions which are excellent - because I was so nervous about it and even there it took me about 15 minutes to do. Most of that being double checking to see what I'd missed because it seemed *too* easy. But it was done. So what is it like when installed? Well I actually do love that it comes with the door sensor so you can - if you want, and only via the Ultraloq (Xthings Home) app make it so that as soon as the door is closed it locks. Alas this sensor / capability isn't exposed to HomeKit so it's via the app or not at all. (Well of course you could add your own HomeKit or Matter sensors to the door and use HomeKit automation if you wanted... but that's off topic for this unit) I love that it has so much variety of options for locking and unlocking. You can have the door auto lock when closed, or you can have it that if you press the Ultraloq button on the lock outside it will lock or you could even use a key if you wanted. To unlock you have HomeKey so tapping your phone to the outside unit (and can choose to make it work without unlocking the phone or requiring your FaceID unlocking before it will work), you can put in a pin code (4 - 8 digits) and can obfuscate that with "anti-peek" mode by putting random stuff before and/or after it before trying to unlock to prevent anyone grabbing the code if they're watching. You can use the NFC cards supplied with it, and you can use the key which is a great fall back to have should it say run out of juice. You can also set up temporary pins which I've tried out for a future case where I will have pet sitters coming around. Perfect. Honestly, I was a bit suspicious of this but at the price I thought it was worth giving it a go given it has so many features and integrates so well with Apple HomeKit. I've had this in place now for a week and I've been very happy with it so far.

Worked great, but drains battery super quickly and seems to have problems fully locking or unlocking the door by itself (motor doesn’t go all the way in each direction). EDIT : contacted the manufacturer and went through some troubleshooting. It now works very well and the battery doesn’t drain anymore.

Home automation products are confusing! This was first attempt at door locks in an Apple home. This product is nearly there, but has some serious drawbacks. First, it does what it says but it doesn’t do enough. NFC can be a “phone tap” but this model ships with credit card sized pieces of plastic that will open the door. But you cannot add a “digital key” to your phone and use your phone to open the door. This unit also doesn’t offer Threads communication radios. These are low power radios for keeping the lock online. Instead, the lock only has wifi. And always on wifi burns through 8 batteries a month. A threads radio would go through 4 batteries in 6-8 months. So there are two significant technological advances this lock needs to make it worthwhile. One strange issue I had was a partial unlock. It sounded like it had fully unlocked but the door remained barred. A second attempt finally disengaged the bolt. The software for the phone was pretty good. I never really dug into it because of these other issues. Will it lock your door? Yes. Will it unlock the door? Most times on the first attempt. If you are interested in a key that can be put into your Apple Wallet, this is not going to satisfy you. If you want long stretches of battery life, this is not going to satisfy you.
