Hello, what's the OD of the main barrel? Thank you..

The OD of the barrel is right at 20" and the total width is a little under 42". There is also two levels of racks when smoking and using only the firebox for heat but the second on is on the bottom of the main racks. I'm in the process of making a couple simple mods to move them above the main set of racks. If it fits your needs this thing is definitely a tank and very well built. Very impressed...

Does this smoker need to be placed on concrete to prevent charcoal ashes from catching grass, etc., on fire?

No, there is no opening on the bottom to allow hot ashes to drop. As with any charcoal appliance you have to use common sense as to where you place them. They get hot after all.

What are the dimensions of the cooking chamber? How wide are the two doors on the cook chamber?

Is there a convection plate or other set up to even out hot spots on the grill? Any suggestions will be helpful.

No, there's no convection plate with this grill. I've only used it once, and the temperature is about 50 degrees hotter near the fire. That said, it's still an awesome grill for the money, I paid $699 a month ago.
