Stanley 1-83-069 MaxSteel Multi Angle Hobby Vice, Yellow/Black

Just like all the reviews here and on YouTube say, this actually is a pretty cool little vise. It's a nice warm DeWalt colored yellow. It's sturdy. And it's just cool! - It shipped in a cardboard box and the vise itself was still in its cute little retail packaging. These things should definitely be sold in local stores like home Depot or Lowe's. - The main ball joint locks up rock solid with just a half turn of the lever. And the lever doesn't have to be tight at all. As soon as you start feeling resistance it's locked up tight. Can't move it. I did have to wipe a bunch of oil off the ball but that's good. - The jaw covers are a good thick hard rubber, almost like plastic. And they're matte textured for grip. The metal jaws have grooves to hold rods and stuff tight. Always helpful. - The screws to hold the jaws on go in from the outside which makes the holes on the jaws much smaller. The ball joint lever has a spring in it that always keeps a little pressure on the ball joint so it doesn't flop down when you loosen it. You can push up on the lever while it's loose and the ball joint becomes looser. - It's small but it does feel pretty solid for it's size. I wouldn't hammer on it, I guess it's cast steel but it does feel plenty thick and reinforced in the right places. - The front jaw has "STANLEY" stamped into it and a fine point sharpie fits perfectly into the stamped letters. As you can see in my photo lol. :) - It doesn't need much desk space to clamp onto. 1 and 5/8 inches, as you can see in my photo. Even less space on the bottom side. But it's still plenty solid. You don't need to crank it down tight, it gets plenty tight with minimal effort. It's not going anywhere. - It definitely is useful to have a vise that will go down horizontal. Not to mention all the other ways you could tilt this thing. Super versatile. - Comes apart very easily to clean it or regrease. One simple c clip for the spindle. The base also comes apart to get at the ball joint. I can see this lasting forever. Great purchase. It's a small vise not made to bend or hammer on things. But just to hold things for you. It is very well designed and built. Good, solid mounting to a work bench. Excellent adjustability of working jaws. I love it for smaller hobby type tasks. Plenty of clamping power. Also comes with a set of useful soft jaws.

Works well, easy to move around, and good value. It is a little small but not tiny so a lot of things can fit in it.

Seems well constructed. The jaw to fasten the vise to a workbench is a little narrow but not a deal breaker.

Very handy vice. The swivel is amazing. It's abit smaller then I thought it would be but still very nice to work with.

This is a very well made little table vice. Great for hobbyists and anyone who wants a small versatile device to hold things in a variety of positions. I needed it to cut plastic pipe and other types of tubing. I also wanted something like this for a long time. Small enough to fit in a tool bag with other tools and strong enough for some heavy duty use. It’s brilliant!

I have another portable table vice that I bought years ago, some no-brand low quality product which was OK but disappointed on a few things. I wanted something better and I'm very happy with this Stanley product. It exceeded my expectations. It holds work very firmly and is stable. It maintains tension in the ball joint when you loosen it so it doesn't flop about, which is a good touch. My only criticism is that the rubber guards on the mouth come off rather easily, and I expect they could get lost. But that's not a huge issue. I recommend this product.

This vise is very nice for the price, it's very smell but very sturdy with a solid design. First glance: I noticed the ball joint, threaded rod, and guide pins were quite dry with a very light machine oil applied so I disassembled the unit degreased it then liberally coated the metal on metal contact points, the ball joint, the threaded rods, and the guide pins with moly grease: 1. Unscrewing the threaded rod all the way releases the front jaw half. 2. Using a size 2 slotted screwdriver you can gently pry the circlip from the threaded rod shaft which releases the threaded rod from the jaw assembly. 3. Unscrewing the smaller spring/washer retained bolt and the two larger phillips screws frees the ball joint clamp assembly. There is no bushing or bearing to take the load of the guide pins so i filled the jaw half cavities with moly grease and after assembling the unit i wiped off all the excess that built up and degreased the jaw halfs so now the unit is built more accordingly to last a lot longer. I'm looking into designing some bushings and guide pin bearings to print with my 3d printer to see if i can make the jaws stay aligned and not wobble. Overall its a great vise and i've needed a vise for decades but dont have a proper solid table that would be suited for bolting a big solid vise, this is a hobby vise that is mobile and is perfect for my airsoft gunsmithing. 5/5 would recommend to anyone, I'd also suggest mirroring my actions to degrease clean and grease the unit with a proper grease designed for metal on metal contact that will reduce wear ultimately prolonging the longevity of the vice, I know it's only £22 but a bit of rust or uneven wear or galling would ruin things quickly.
