I have yet to run into one of these that doesn't thread together nice and smooth. Typical quality item from Curt just like their hitches. Like everything that's outside all the time, some lubricant once in awhile and they will last for years.

Great for factory hitch plates that don't readily hook up to safety chains
Ford doesn't get how people hook up safety chains. These make it possible. I leave them on the hitch plate and the high brake strength gives me confidence
