Friga: desertcart.co.uk: Kindle Store Review: โญโญโญโญโญ Excellent Book for Learning Structured Thinking and Problem-Solving - The McKinsey Mind is an outstanding read for anyone who wants to sharpen their business thinking, problem-solving ability, and professional approach to consulting-style work. Whether you are a student, manager, entrepreneur, analyst, or aspiring consultant, this book gives you practical insight into how top-tier consultants approach complex business problems. What makes this book especially valuable is that it does not just talk about McKinsey in theory. It breaks down the actual mindset, frameworks, and working methods used to analyse problems, structure solutions, communicate clearly, and deliver results. The content feels highly relevant for real-world business situations, especially if you want to improve decision-making, presentations, client thinking, or strategic planning. One of the strongest points of this book is its focus on practical tools. You learn how to think in a more organised, hypothesis-driven, and results-focused way. The writing is clear enough for beginners, but the concepts are strong enough to benefit experienced professionals as well. It is the kind of book that can improve the way you work, write, present, and solve problems. This is also a very useful book for people preparing for: consulting interviews case study work business school strategy roles leadership positions entrepreneurship and business planning From an affiliate-marketing point of view, this is the kind of book that has strong appeal because it speaks to ambition, career growth, and practical professional development. It makes a strong gift for graduates, MBA students, young professionals, and anyone interested in business excellence. Why this book stands out: Teaches structured problem-solving Gives insight into consulting-style thinking Useful for business, strategy, and leadership Easy to read but full of valuable ideas Great for career development and self-improvement Overall, The McKinsey Mind is a smart investment for anyone serious about improving the quality of their thinking and learning how high performers solve problems. Review: An excellent insight into MBB consulting - This is a worthwhile read for anyone considering a career in consulting. It provides a road map of the mind set and skills one needs to be a successful career. It also offers advice on dealing with the demands of being a consultant and the impact it can have on life outside of work.

More grounded & practical than expected
I found The McKinsey Mind a much more grounded and practical book than I expected. Yes it is a peek into the minds of two McKinsey-ites but what I loved about it was being able to pick up a couple of different tools and approaches that I could integrate into my existing business practices right now. It was also really interesting to hear how McKinsey alumni handled working in other companies and cultures by adapting some of the methodologies presented. Recommended reading - 5 stars.

So-So
Anyone looking for anything particularly insightful will be disappointed. There's a number of flaws in the book, not the least, for a book this size there was a paucity of meaty case studies/analysis. The page on breaking a problem down in a problem tree was good... in the way that you knew it already, but may have forgotten it and it's good to have a refresher. I also liked the MECE (Mutually Exclusive, Collectively Exhaustive), as a good way to treat analysis. TBH though, these could be covered in 15 pages in a handout. The rest of the content in the book is largely dilutive. Probably would be new and useful to a student, or else maybe a new-starter in a company just out of college. Anyone else, this falls into the "skim increasingly rapidly, gather nuggets (2), and then feel vaguely disappointed".

MECE MECE MECE (rats forgot what it means)
Mutually Exclusive Completely Exhaustive. A great little read for the would-be management consultant who did not get 4 x A*, a 1st and then a PhD. Apparently not everyone does. Shows you the ropes, shows you some thinking skills. Does not teach you how to tell the time with someone else's watch.

McKinsey Minds offers great insights into the way McKinsey consultants think and solve problems. The book is well-structured and provides practical strategies that can be applied in real business scenarios. I especially appreciated the sections on problem-solving and communication techniques. The only reason Iโm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that some parts felt a bit repetitive, and a few chapters could have gone deeper into real-world examples. Overall, a valuable read for anyone interested in consulting or improving their business thinking.

Very poor approach. A book full of evident advice and very poor knowledge about a real strategy consultancy firm. I clearly recommend not buying it

The whole process for fast pacing projects is described. Some chapters are better, some not so. It is a good inspiration for projects.
