Tao Oracle: An Illuminated New Approach to the I Ching

I have been a professional Tarot Card reader for over 40 years, and a student of the I Ching for just about as long. This is as beautiful and useful a deck as I have ever seen. I use it as my primary deck in my own readings. It never fails to share love, wisdom, guidance, and inspiration. Regarding the chief criticsm on this site: yes, there may be other more profund books on the I Ching, including of course the ancient texts themselves, but that is not the point. The little book that comes with the cards is just a helpful additional tool. These amazing cards themselves are the point. They are pure, accurate, useful, and inspiring. If a picture is worth a thousand words, these beautifully and profoundly rendered card illustrations -- with perfect use of shape, form, subject, and color -- are priceless in helping to reveal the inner nature of the I Ching and make them thus more accessible to all who would benefit from this ancient oracular device. They also enable one to learn from the I Ching in a faster and more comprehensive manner than is available solely through the coins or yarrow sticks. They are not just Tarot cards, they are fine art. This is why I use them -- and am grateful that they are in my life. Thank you, Ma Deva Padma. Your work is extraordinary skillful -- and extraordinarily divine! (By the way, I would love to know if you have posters available? I will have to check online -- I particularly love your card of Peace, finding it as soothing as anything I have ever seen!)

This oracle deck is a complete system. If you are one who doesn't usually like oracle decks because they don't offer as much of a balanced system as say, a Tarot deck, then this is the deck for you. This deck can be used for most types of readings as it features a balanced system of both light and dark cards, and it gives you so much to work with. I mean, you have a beautiful image that is great to read intuitively, and then you have a title and multiple different keywords to go off of. I will say, that I don't have much knowledge on the I-ching, which is what this deck is based off of, so I can't say much on that regard. However, if you are like me and you are in the market for a balanced oracle deck to use for many types of readings, then this is the deck for you. You can literally use this deck right off the box with no previous knowledge of the cards due to the many keywords featured on the cards. It does also come with a big book, I haven't read too much of it at this point, but it does feature a good amount of information on the I-ching system if that interests you. I can't leave this review without mentioning the buttery-silky smooth matte cardstock. I have over 60 Tarot & Oracle decks, and this card stock is hands down in my top 3. I mean, it's truly a delight to touch and shuffle. 9.5/10. Highly recommend.

Ma's writing is demonstrative of having both insight and curiosity, stillness and wanderlust. This deck and book is a practice in I Ching. Beautifully illustrated cards - /is/ there a media that is a mix of watercolor, pastel, and charcoal? - feature symbology, titles, and keywords relevant to each hexagram at the bottom. A thicker, yet flexible, card stock that feels almost as if produced to be tear resistant. One of the most strikingly awesome cards in this deck is Hex 37: The Family. 12 images that encompass every age, gender, and ethnicity of the human race - each with eyes that have that "knowing look" and a welcoming smile. Meditating on this image moves me profoundly and my eyes well-up. Many blessed thanks to mystic Padma for bringing such a wonderful image into creation. Easiest way to bond with this deck? Pick a card, and then study it intensely for 7 days.

I am not familiar with I Ching or the Tao. But I loved the Osho zen tarot kit by the same author & artist. My hope is to learn more of another’s culture as we live on a small rock. 64 cards with good non glossy stock. No gilded edges. Keywords, symbols and I Ching with beautiful art all on the cards. They are meant to be read upright. The guidebook is massive as these books go. Small images of each card and font is normal size. The details of the symbols are Yin & Yang and will require some study. How the hexagrams are formed and can become a separate workbook each of us can fashion to our tastes. Really a great adventure into hexagrams & I Ching philosophy.

OMG These cards are so beautiful. I plan to use them as Oracle cards as I know nothing about I Ching. The meanings are on the cards. The images are stunning. I love the card stock too. It's not thick cardboard like many oracle decks. The cards are good stock with some type of coating on them so they should last a long time. The cards are larger than tarot. I have small hands & traditional shuffling is difficult for me (even with tarot size cards).. I do a vertical overhand shuffle which works for me. If you are on the fence, these are fabulous cards. I don't think you will be disappointed. 5/29/17 Update: I am sending these beauties back. 2 of the cards have large white spots on the back like they were stuck together from the printer. I didn't notice it in the beginning as I was so intrigued with the beautiful pictures on the front of the cards. Also these cards sort of clump together & are really difficult to shuffle. They may need some fanning powder or something on them to make them shuffle better. The book & cards are so beautiful, I hated to send them back.

This is more than just another great oracle or tarot deck, as it features the divination element.

I like the feel of them -- I interviewed the deck I like the way the I Ching is translated with colors and pictures it makes it a lot easier to read when you can see a picture of a mountain instead of a trigram each card has pictures for the trigrams and a yin yang symbol with the colors of the trigrams - top and bottom this set makes it easier for me to read & understand the I Ching the cards are nice and feel good there are a couple of cards that are marked from the manufacturing process - so I have to fan them out to the other side with the opposite hand when choosing cards it's inconvenient but it's no big deal I can still use them - I just have to choose cards from this deck differently than I usually do

Hi Folks, when purchased this Tao Oracle card and book set, it was different from other cards I use, so as a beginning I started using the deck every once and a while to feel more comfortable with the cards and all the info each card offers But now over a year later, I really like the deck, even if I just pull one card for the day, gives me something of value to think about. the cards are sturdy, not overly large, featuring paintings, symbols, colors and key words, the book is informative, easy to read and nice size print, 319 pages with more information than the card meaning which has an overview and a break down of each line and more. for the price, you get a whole lot of everything. Edición en inglés a un precio que es regalado practicamente. Algunas cartas no me gustan por el simbolismo que han usado para expresar el concepto de la carta pero en general son bellas en si mismas. I have been using the Osho Zen Tarot for more than a decade now. It was the first deck I learned tarot on. And so the Osho Zen Tarot really holds a special place in my heart. In recent years I came to know that there was also an oracle deck created by Ma Deva Padma who is also the creator of Osho Zen tarot. I decided that I just had to had it. And boy! I am so glad that I did purchase this deck. I'm an Asian myself and I have always been fascinated with the I-Ching. I-Ching is an Asian form of divination. And this oracle card set is a great tool to use in itself and also great to be used with I-Ching coins. The cards are absolutely absolutely beautiful! I mean I can gazing into the cards for hours and hours. It's almost like one of my friends said it - "Osho Zen Tarot on Steroid". Seriously amazing! You get the cards and book in a nice hardcover box, very sturdy and good. You get your cards that are lavishly beautiful and luscious to hold. The artwork is phenomenal. The book is pretty concise and also precise. I like the sayings in the judgement of the I-Ching. There is a table of corresponding I-Ching hexagrams at the back of the book so that is very helpful for quick reference. I love the card backs you have a very nice red coloured back and a beautiful Ba-Gua. The card stock is very sturdy, very thick and has a semi-matte finish to them. Overall just amazing amazing Oracle set. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to learn how to use the I-Ching as a form of divination.
