Let Go

In my opinion, Avril Lavigne's Let Go is the most impressive debut album since Tori Amos' Little Earthquakes. I love everything about Avril: her sound, her song-writing prowess, her guitar-playing talent, her voice, her commitment, her honesty and realism, her attitude, her confidence, her individualism, etc. It's interesting to go back now and look at some of the critical reviews that came out when this album was released, seeing how even as beautiful and powerful a song as I'm With You was sometimes dismissed for its supposedly amateurish lyrics. Those who put down Avril's lyrics on this album don't really understand Avril Lavigne; this album is the product of a sixteen-year-old female trying to discover herself, deal with relationships, and generally figure out just what kind of world she is suddenly becoming an adult in. I'm no longer a teenager, but I like to pretend that I am, and these lyrics spoke volumes to me. The range of emotions Avril touches upon in her music run the gamut of normal teenager issues, finding extra fuel in a self-confidence and feeling of purpose that most young people (as well as most adults) will never know. I also hear a lot of critics say Avril sounds like Pink here, Alanis Morrissette there, someone else over here, etc. There's no reason why she wouldn't be influenced by other artists; even the most accomplished people get where they are by standing on the shoulders of those who have come before them. For my part, I find Avril absolutely original; while she may incorporate styles or sounds from elsewhere, she melds them all together into a sound and style all her own. Further proof that this is Avril's music can be found in the fact that she backed away from the talented professionals she was matched with when she first came to New York, then fortunately found in LA Reid a producer who allowed her to truly be herself. I am continually amazed at the tracks on this album. Any one of these 13 tracks could be a hit single; that's how good this album is from start to finish. Of course, Complicated is the song that sent Avril into superstar orbit, Sk8er Boi gave us ample evidence of Avril's skateboard punk rock foundation, and then I'm With You and Losing Grip gave us glimpses of the vulnerable side lying not far below the brash and confident surface of this energetic new artist. Normally, you would expect some loss of intensity in the remaining songs, but not here. Avril really seems to have her finger on the pulse of a most vibrant life, reflecting her wonder and fascination with the world she is embracing for the first time in songs such as Mobile and Tomorrow. Things I'll Never Say is an exploration of private thoughts everyone she be able to relate to, Unwanted and Too Much to Ask reflect the confusion and vulnerability of the human soul, but Avril boldly declares that she is Nobody's Fool. Avril's sense of empowerment and confidence are two of the strongest, most appealing aspects of her music. My favorite song on the album, and perhaps the one that best represents Lavigne herself, is Anything But Ordinary. Too many of us die inside at an early age, and Avril seems to be determined not to let that happen. The extras included on this enhanced CD are well worth noting. You get a short biography, a look at a day in the life of Avril Lavigne featuring impromptu performances on the sidewalks and subways of New York City, interview footage, the Complicated video, as well as - and this is certainly something not to be missed - an extra song track. Obviously, I'm a huge fan of Avril Lavigne, and I could not have asked for more from any veteran performer than I got from this newcomer on this extraordinary debut album.

Excelente álbum todo bien con el envío

My adventure with Avril Lavigne started with the movie "Eragon" and the ending music within which Avril sang "Keep Holding On". Her powerful voice was stirring to say the least. After purchasing her third album and listening to that I realized that Avril could sing. Needless to say I own all of her music. In as much as I can. Disclaimer: Avril Lavigne is not for everyone. I'm nearly 60 years old and thoroughly enjoy her music. Avril Lavigne writes from experience, about moments of time in her life and snippets of what she was thinking or feeling at the time. Avril also collaborates on the mix. Her choice of collaborators has been excellent and they seem to know what Avril's supposed to sound like. The music has excellent spacial dynamics, excellent depth and headroom with many layers. And her voice is right out front. At times, the mix of voice and music is quite moving. I listen in the car, to and from work, on the desktop with a 5.1 speaker system. With over the ear headphones, and with well sealing earphones. I'd say I'm a fairly critical listener. I listen deeply. While listening in the car I have, at times, become quite animated while singing along, windows down and Avril cranked up. All of her music is good. At one time I thought I would make some discs of my favorites of Avril's, but it sounded "off" somehow. I realized I couldn't pull just two or three songs off an album. They needed to be together. They are integral to one another, and just wouldn't sound right. Again, Avril Lavigne isn't for everyone, like children, say 14 and under, but, it is powerful, moving and playful. Avril Lavigne, to me, sounds good. Any album would be a good first or an excellent addition to a collection. I'm currently listening to her most recent album which is self titled and, to me, is a mix of "now" and "then". "Hello Kitty" is a blast. I hear a little J-POP in there. Avril is fairly popular in Southeast Asia and parts of East Asia. I'm into K-POP these days and "Hello Kitty" sounds very familiar. I guess the music from those regions has had an impact. Avril Lavigne... good stuff.

When I picked the CD off of the rack, I thought that it would be another generic girl "rocker" trying to make her way in a pop world. My assumption was almost correct. Avril is a girl rocker trying to make her way in a pop music world, but she is anything but generic. Her music covers a variety of types: soulful, playful, rock, a bit of pop, and a lot of a new class, Avril style. There's something about her voice and her lyrics that set herapart from the others. SO, here's a blow-by-blow look at her music. Losing Grip is a rock song that captures the emotion of a person who wasn't there for her when she needed it. At first, it sounds like wonderful music with nonesense lyrics, but once you listen, everything comes together. Complicated seems to be the odd one out on the CD, almost like it was made for radio. The punk sound to it makes it completely different than the rest of the CD. PLus, you probably already know the somg anyway. Sk8er Boi is a pop song about a girl who turns a boy down because her friends don't like him. He thens becomes a rock star while she ends up a single mother. THe whole song is just delightful to listen to. I'm With You brings out the modernized bluesy tunes of Avril's voice. The lyrics are true, harsh but true, and the song is a masterpiece all together. Mobile is a song about change. Out of control change that leaves you reeling. The lyrics and the music bring the song together and leave you smiling. Anything But Ordinary is a different kind of song, Avril style. She sings about her life, and where she wants to be. The song is unlike anything you've ever heard, and for me, that song was the only reason I bought the CD, although I like all the songs now. Things I'll Never Say is another Avril style song. She sings about her boyfriend and wishes that she has about him and her life. The song is upbeat, but kind of sad, and it's a great song to dance around your room with. My World is a fast song about where Avril grew up and her life. Napanee, a 5000 population town in Canada is where it takes place. The song has catchy lyric and good music. I only told about the best songs. All the others are wonderful, but these are the ones that stand out hte most. I hope that you enjoy the CD as much as I have.

If you don't like her, then you shouldn't be on this page anyway. But if you do and STILL haven't tried this album out, PLEASE do because it's good. It's Avril's best album out of her first three. Is it deep? Well, some would say yes, but I'm gonna say no. It's just a fun, somewhat-varied-in-sound album. Some of the lyrics are the opposite of deep, but she was just starting out. I liked her attitude on this album. Then she had to go off the deep end with her 2007 effort, The Best Damn Thing which was just childish and had minimal good songs on it. I think most of us agree to that. ANYWAY, onto my favorite songs. *"Losing Grip" starts the album off perfectly and is one of the many standouts. It's decent pop-rock and was one of my favorites even way back when. Still love to play this song. *"Complicated" is another goodie, and was Avril's first single. I don't think I need to speak much more about this upbeat pop number. *"I'm With You" is one of the best ballads on the album and was a single for a reason. It's great and tells a tale about feeling lonely and wanting someone to take you away. *"Tomorrow" is a track that I didn't like right away. But it's up there with the best standouts because of the way she sings the song as well as the song's topic of maybe not being ready to have sex or to take that next step in a relationship. *"Anything But Ordinary" is yet another standout. It's a great song about wanting to just freak out and "let go" of everything because you've always done things the right way. "Nobody's Fool" is another standout, but to a lesser extent. Some people hate this track and I can see why because Avril kinda raps in it. But it's still a fun track that tells others that she's not gonna change (which sadly she kinda did) and that she's "got a backbone stronger than yours". "Unwanted" is the last standout, but to a lesser extent. I just love the opening riff and wish it would come into the song more often. It's about how Avril introduces herself to some boy and he pretends she's not even there. The rest of the tracks are fine, if not extraordinary. They fit fine on the album but some of them aren't that exciting. However, this is a solid listen throughout and that's why I'm rewarding this with a "B-", 4.1 stars (or an 8.2/10). Il primo album della cantante/autrice canadese, Avril Lavigne. Che dire: un bellissimo album di debutto, un successo, avuto semplicemente presentando le canzoni scritte attraverso i propri sentimenti e le proprie emozioni. Vediamo nel dettaglio le canzoni :) 1.Losing Grip: Prima canzone che apre questo bellissimo album e 4° singolo ufficiale di quest'album. Suoni molto duri e decisi, un testo molto toccante, un'atmosfera cupa e dolce allo stesso tempo. Chitarre elettriche molto forti accompagnano tutta la durata del brano. Voto 8/10; 2.Complicated: Il primo singolo d'esordio della cantante. Un ritmo decisamente più soft ma molto più orecchiabile. "Why you have to go and make things so complicated?", è la frase alla base del ritornello di questo brano davvero molto carico di emozioni. Grazie a questo singolo, Avril Lavigne si è conquistata fin da subito, il titolo di cantante internazionale. Voto 8,5/10; 3.Sk8er Boi: 2° singolo ufficiale di questo album. Inizia subito con una chitarra dal suono sfrenato, che continua anche nel ritornello accompagnata dal suono di un basso! E' una bella traccia, molto spensierata e con un video altrettanto "trasgressivo" per il personaggio che Avril cercava di creare in quegli anni! Voto 8,5/10; 4.I'm With You: Il 3° singolo ufficiale di Let Go. Quello che ha portato avanti la fama di Avril Lavigne, "spingendola" a livello mondiale. Una ballad molto intensa e sentita, un terzo singolo molto diverso dai 2 precedenti, certamente un cambio di rotta anche per quanto riguarda il videoclip che lo accompagna, in quanto presenta atmosfere più cupe, basato sulla frase "It's a damn cold night" e ovviamente sul significato della solitudine che questa canzone vuole trasmettere. Io amo davvero questa canzone, quindi 10/10!; 5.Mobile: Singolo solo per Nuova Zelanda e Australia. Suoni molto delicati all'inizio, accompagnati da una leggera chitarra che poi "scoppierà" nel ritornello. E' stata la colonna sonora di alcuni film. E' stato registrato un video, in cui Avril appare in un'autostrada mentre canta e piange. Tuttavia, il video non è presente nel canale ufficiale della cantante. Voto 7,5/10; 6.Unwanted: 5° singolo solo per l'Inghilterra e l'Irlanda. Fu trasmesso solo nelle radio inglesi, per questo non ha una copia fisica. Inizia in maniera abbastanza "violenta" e con suoni decisi e duri. Traspare un'Avril Lavigne più aggressiva rispetto alle canzoni precedenti. Il sound si avvicina molto allo stile di Losing Grip; diventa preponderante l'uso di chitarre che danno al brano una sonorità molto Rock. Voto 7/10; 7.Tomorrow: Un'altra ballad dal suono incantevole. Suoni dolci accompagnano l'inizio di questa melodia e si propogano per tutta la durata del brano. "Tomorrow it may change/Tomorrow is a different day", sono le frasi che racchiudono l'intero significato di questo brano molto malinconico. Voto 8/10; 8.Anything but ordinary: Questo brano, molto personale, parla della cantante stessa che "odia" dover fare tutte le cose che facciamo quotidianamente; appunto, afferma "I'd rather be anything but ordinary, please", ossia, "Preferirei essere tutto tranne che normale". Una bellissima ballad, ripeto, molto personale. Voto 8/10; 9.Things I'll never say: Già con Anything but Ordinary, si entra nella parte molto più personale dell'Album, diciamo quella che gelosamente un fan di Avril Lavigne, custodisce, perchè troviamo tutte canzoni magnifiche che non sono state scelte come singoli! Questa canzone ha un ritmo molto coinvolgente dato dalle chitarre che accompagnano tutto il brano, seguite dal basso. Un testo davvero bello, basato su "Cose che non diremmo mai". Voto 9,5/10 10.My world: Un'altra traccia molto personale. Racconta il "mondo" della cantante canadese. Tutto ciò che ha caratterizzato tutta la sua vita da adolescente, ciò che le piaceva fare, i suoi pensieri, come si sentiva. Uno stile molto simile al brano successivo, cioè Nobody's Fool. Voto 7,5/10; 11.Nobody's Fool: Un'Avril molto decisa, afferma in poche strofe che se qualcuno cercasse di farla cambiare, di farla essere come lei non è, di farla assomigliare ad un' altra persona, di deprimerla e di adattarla alle proprie esegenze, può provarci, ma non ci riuscirà mai, perchè lei non è la zimbella di nessuno! Sonorità molto armonica, ma allo stesso tempo molto decisa e soprattutto mette in risalto molto la potenza della sua voce! Voto 8,5/10; 12.Too much to ask: Ancora una canzone d'amore che ci avvia alla fine di questo magnifico Album. Come sempre troviamo chitarre e batteria che danno un sound molto Rock al brano. Però, dalla tonalità della voce di Avril, si capisce benissimo che si tratta di una canzone molto malinconica, che trasmette attraverso la sua musica, quelle che sono le sue emozioni più profonde e nascoste. "E' troppo ciò che sto chiedendo?". Voto 8/10; 13.Naked: Un ultimo capolavoro per concludere quest'album, e che "mette a nudo" la personalità e i sentimenti della cantante, attraverso questa canzone che rivela quali siano le sue debolezze. "I'm so naked around you - Sono così nuda intorno a te", questa frase rappresenta tutta la fragilità dell'artista, del resto, cosa c'è di più debole, metaforicamente parlando di una persona "nuda" e che si "spoglia" interamente di se stessa? All'inizio Avril parla di indossare una maschera, per non rivelare al mondo intero chi sia, ma poi di fronte a questa persona si sente completamente impotente, fragile, nuda. Voto 9,5/10. Voto complessivo Album: 9/10. E' un album magnifico, merita di essere acquistato, davvero! Non ve ne pentirete. -- Francesco

Très beau vinyl de la part d'Avril Lavigne, le bleu est très esthétique! La musique est excellente qui n'es pas étonnant de la part de cette artiste. La qualité sonore de ce vinyl est excellente aidé du fait que le vinyl était très bien protégé pour éviter les déformation pendant le transport.
