The newer version is said to be the same, but they didn't want to pay the fee to VW for a lot of the content, meaning it is missing a ton of tables and torque values. Whether true or not, I grabbed this one and it has been complete so far, though I've only used it for the basics... but the basics are what you usually need. I can quickly find the picture or drawing I need to deal with the basics of the ignition system, valve check, and carburetor. I've also used it on less common stuff, like the windshield wiper motor, where it is slightly less helpful but still has information. Being an older manual it assumes you can just order a new part directly from VW, but the online world is there to rescue you when that comes up. Thy physical binding is no different than any number of Haynes manuals I've owned for different motorcycles over the last 25 years.
