desertcart.com: Story of Edgar Cayce: There Is a River: 9780876043752: Sugrue, Thomas: Books Review: Book - Very good book Review: YES! This IS the Sugrue's Original Book. . . - This is quite possibly one of the most important books ever written. It introduces us to the life and work of Edgar Cayce, one of the best documented psychics (prophets?) ever. Had it not been for works of people such as Cayce, Paul Solomon and a few others, we may be still living in dark ages not really knowing that there is so much more to life than meets the eye (and that modern institutions would have one believe). I also want to add here that I own three copies of this book: the original 1943 edition with publishing date of Dec.1942, printed in 1943 by Henry Holt and Company, Inc.; the 1972 edition printed in 1972 by Holt, Rinehart and Winston and same size and format as the original 1943 book, and the new paperback edition, published in 1997 by the A.R.E. press. Due to a review posted here by a "perceptive lady", I went through pain of comparing the three books (not to mention the cost of acquiring the original first edition) to see if she was telling the truth. Since the new book is so much smaller (dense text of smaller size can save quite a bit of space) I thought that it was quite possible that some contents may have been lost. However, after spending numerous hours comparing the three texts I found absolutely no difference between them. Zero, nothing, zilch, nada, null, bupkis. The new edition, has pictures of Edgar Cayce and A.R.E from the times when it was first founded, which I find a very nice addition. So if anything, the new edition is better than the old one. However, I am old fashioned and I like the big print and hard cover of the old editions. But other than that, absolutely nothing is lost with this new edition. It is just too bad that those who do a really good job are attacked for no good reason. One should make sure that what they claim is true, is really true. And others should also check for themselves before they trust a passionate but untrue review such as the one by the "perceptive lady".

I have purchased 6 of this book so far
What an incredible read. It looks like a boring book. I came upon the Medical Medium's books about 5 years ago and purchased them each as they came out, and I came to believe there had to be a God because of the information the Medical Medium (Anthony William) shares. He is on this earth to help us heal our earthly bodies. After I realized there really had to be a God (I'm 67, mind you), I decided to get some of Edgar Cayce's books and see what he was all about. The first one I chose to read is "There is a River" as I thought I should learn about the man first before learning what he wanted to tell us in the other books. I was blown away. By the time I ended the book - after reading the chapter called "Philosophy" - I was simply in shock, but it was a happy shock. Joyous even. I realized it was truth - my intuition told me so. I have gone on and have read many other books - both Edgar Cayce's and Dolores Cannon's, and Michael Newton's.....and I am so happy all the time now that I don't even know what to do with myself. If you want to be happy like I am, please get this book and read it. It can change your life too. I have shared 5 of this book with 5 other people, and their lives are changing too.

Absorbing Biography About Cayce's Life
In all of my time, I have never read any of Edgar Cayce's books until I read this biography entitled "There is a river," which turns out to be quite an interesting and absorbing reading about his life. This book became the reason for me to read Cayce's books. I have found it to be an easy-to-read and a style that can bring the reader along the journey as if experiencing Cayce's life first-hand, or at least that's my impression. It's certainly a book that I couldn't put down and a book I have read more than once because it's such an unusual story about a man whose consciousness split into two: waking and sleeping. When he goes into a sleeping state, he'd become a source of knowledge and wisdom being offered for those who asked. I'd surely recommend this book for those who are interested in Cayce's life and his works as it's a good introduction to the modern prophet, or so I think.

Angelic Teachings
This story describes Edgar Cayce ability to help thousands of people who were not helped by Medical Doctors , or specialist. He DID have supernatural ability . ( but also a very lot of difficult living , as he learned his ability to talk in a sleep position, with people who recorded his answers to their questions , about health, life, death, Jesus, and he gave a few premonitions that would have taken place if the people did NOT transform OUT of some hurtful living... Which must have happened, .. He also was able to tell others about the dreams they had that nignt and what they were doing, and he also FOUND things that had been hidden out of sight < ( medicine which one patient needed , and no on knew where it was )He also helped heal his relatives. He was taken to court by people trying to disqualify him., but had done no wrong ( and the Judge had also been helped by Cayce ,who he had asked Cayce to give him answers to heal the Judge, And he HAD done so ... Cayce still has 40 thousand written reports of his answers ,to help heal people. No one was ever hurt by his reading. He went into a unconscious state ( like sleep ) and was given questions. MORE the health questions, he was asked some other things too. He describes reincarnation.... There is nothing in the Bible that stops the idea of reincarnation... Also , when a blind man was cured by Jesus, the apostles asked why he was born blind? Did he do something to get born blind? " No, Jesus said, it was to give you the demonstration of his healing." But Jesus did not deny the possibility of others being born because of something they did. And it means that apostles had belief in reincarnation. THE word Karma means the things we did ( or do ) to create our future,, ( living our creations now or later) Edgar Cayce had a very helpful life , which as a child , he said an Angel asked him what he would like to do, & he said "Help Others"..

I wouldn't mind paying a thousand bucks To Cayce or Sugrue for their life's story. But not a farthing to this publisher or seller for this low quality paperback. The pages are cheap white, the print is packed sardines, the cover edges are already worn dog ears, is this the mass market paper back being sold for half the price on your competitors online shopping site? That said, the nice things include language that is spelling mistake free, unsmudged ink, tight binding gum in it's spine. But Rs 833/- not justified.

Lisez!

I really enjoyed this book. It was written at a time when Edgar was still alive. This is a story of the amazing Edgar Cayce's life. The ups and downs. The later 200 or so pages, give insights into what came through on the readings. Which is worth the book price alone, in my opinion. A truely enlightening read, of the life of one of the most accurate psychics. If I have to find a complaint, it would be on the type size. As the lettering is really small. And at times the narative reads a bit dated. But dont forget that this was written when Edgar was still alive. He passed in the mid 1940's But don't let these comments put you off. A brilliant book, that will be read again, and again
