Review: Amazing design, but tough for Swiss Gear straps. - I have a Swiss gear backpack that I bought 2 years ago. The bag is in perfect condition even with 2 years of daily use with a 30lbs load. The bag looks brand new still. Well about a month ago I wasn’t paying attention when I put the bag in my back seat and closed the car door. The strap buckle got crushed in between the door and frame. I called Swiss gear and they said they couldn’t send a new buckle without a receipt, which I no longer have. So the options were either toss a perfectly good backpack with a busted buckle and get a new $60 bag, or try to find a way to fix it. This buckle combo worked perfect! I love that they included an extra pin. The design is very well done. I just would’ve made 1 small change to the design. On the strap buckle, the opening on the front (not the opening where the pin slides in an out), the gap is a good size to accommodate almost all straps, but if it was 1/2mm x 1/2 mm bigger, then it would accommodate the Swiss gear backpacks strap ends much better. The Swiss gear backpack straps have a plastic pull loop mounted on the ends to make it easier to pull the straps tight. The plastic pull does not come off (believe me, I tried). The gap on the replacement buckle was so tight it took a lot of force for me to push the plastic strap pull through the small gap. I’m surprised it didn’t break, and I’m surprised I was even able to force it through to begin with. The new buckle definitely won’t ever slip back off if I need to take it off. It’ll have to be cut off. The new strap buckle works great though. It grips tighter on the strap than the original buckle on the other side. It looks clean and feels stronger than the original. It’s an extremely clever design with the removable pin and I’m super impressed by it. I’ll update this review if anything changes in the future. Review: Worked perfectly. North face cargo pants buckle replacement - just right - Yes, pants. Not a backpack as reported elsewhere but under much more stress as a belt buckle. Remove the broken, failed, original. Both pieces. Thread the open end belt through the right (from your right) clasp. Eezy-beezy. As to the left part, note the loop sewed into the belt. Clear it as needed perhaps with a hammer to the old plastic part. As said above, remove old parts. Then back off the screw to release the rod and pull it out. Do not drop! Insert the left belt with the loop into the clasp and re-insert the rod, locking it into place. Prior to tightening the rod down, suggest a drop or 2 of lock-tight lest the rod back off over time. Use a fine screwdriver lest ye strip the head. Hand tighten only - this is plastic, after all. Wait for the lock-tight to set up and voila!
