In this UPDATED SECOND EDITION (first edition titled " Crucial Confrontations "), you'll learn how to hold anyone accountable, master performance discussions, and get results. Behind the problems that routinely plague our organizations and families, you'll find individuals who are either unwilling or unable to deal with broken promises. Colleagues break a rule, coworkers miss a deadline, friends fail to live up to commitments (or just plain behave badly), and nobody says a word. Nobody holds anyone accountable. With repeated infractions, individuals become increasingly upset until they finally do speak their minds, but they do so poorly--often creating whole new sets of problems. Research proves that mishandled disappointments aren't just morale killers, they're institution killers--diminishing organizational performance by 20 to 50 percent and accounting for up to 90 percent of all divorces. Everyone knows how to run for cover, or, if sufficiently provoked, step up to problems in a way that causes a real ruckus. Crucial Accountability teaches you how to deal with violated expectations in a way that solves the problem at hand without harming the relationship--and, in fact, even strengthens it. Broken promises, missed deadlines, poor behavior--they don't just make others' lives miserable; they can sap up to 50 percent of organizational performance and account for the vast majority of divorces. Crucial Accountability offers the tools for improving relationships in the workplace and in life and for resolving all these problems--permanently. Review: The authors not only offered good, practical - I had to read this for a class and I was dreading it, but I ended up reading almost all of it in one sitting. The authors not only offered good, practical, applicable information, but their writing was pretty good as well. I expected it to be dry and very text-book like, but really it was pretty engaging. It's been a few weeks since I read it and it has proved to be pretty helpful! It's not a magic fix-all for all your relationship problems or anything like that, but its a good tool and resource fro improving how you handle accountability issues in relationships in your personal and professional life. Review: Perfect book for work relations - This is a great read for helping you in a work space, especially in handling tough situations and controlling emotions so it doesnt become worse. It really helps your understanding on communication as well as instructing you how to respond and accept your responsibility in problems.

Good insight
This book had me taking a hard look at myself and how I was giving feedback at work. I had to pause after the first chapter for reflection. I felt a bit called out, but I understand now how I can improve. I also took a class at work on how to give feedback and it seems to align with what the book says. My relationships at work are improving from what I learned.

This should be a must read for every manager.
Love this book. It's a little bit of a long read though. This (in conjunction with Crucial Conversations, the predecessor to this book) saved my family life. I used to be a jerk but now I'm almost tolerable. These people taught me how to converse without interrogating, how to provide opinions without being bossy, and how to influence without being pushy. Seriously--the concepts here changed my life. This one is GREAT for managers because it teaches how to deal with co-workers and subordinates who don't follow through on commitments.

Change your strategy and improve your team!
Just started, but I can tell this is going to help me deal with those challenging conversations with my employees. I hate confrontation and changing my perspective to take that anxiety and nervous energy from the chats so we can deal with productivity and performance from a matter-of-fact point of view is my goal, and I think the author team nailed it.

Perfect Companion to “Crucial Conversations”
I read this book immediately after reading Crucial Conversations. It’s the why and how of holding myself and others accountable when it needs to happen. Definitely a great resource.

Buen libro
El libro llegó perfectamente. Letra espaciada (fácil lectura). Le quito estrellas por que sería justo, al tener el libro en papel, y con suscripción al Prime, poder tener acceso al audio libro sin suscripción adicional. Pero …

Content is solid, but definitely fluffed out
I though the information and content was great; a solid complementary book to Crucial Conversations (one of my favs). However, I feel it could have been half the length and just as valuable. Fluffed out a lot, and skimmed some sections. Worth the read!

My favourite team of authors delivers yet another helpful book
I have read and reread this book and despite having done the same with their other books, there is something I learn or resonates on every reading. Should be required reading for all managers and parents...
