Astro Pneumatic Tool 1423 1/4" Heavy Duty 13" Hand Riveter

Used to replace some boat rivets. Works great. After selecting correct hole size for rivets there are additional adjustments to be made that make them work better. Pay attention to instruction and experiment with how they’re set up, it’s fairly easy. Did about 30 rivets & worked great, can’t speak to long term/high volume use, seems built well.

I just received this about an hour ago to replace the large Harbor Freight model that had the teeth stripped out trying to set a 1/4" stainless steel rivet. I put this to the same test on the fender of my Wrangler, 4 strokes later, pop, the rivet was set perfectly. This Astro riveter has a mechanical advantage, so it may take twice as many strokes, but even with 1/4" stainless steel it was effortless. Buy with confidence, like all Astro Pneumatic Tools, it works like they say and it is excellent. The smaller size is also a storage benefit.

I needed a very sturdy and compact hand riveter to install structural Cherry rivets in race cars and classic cars that I construct/restore. The compound mechanism of this design reduces the effort required to pull high strength steel rivets up to 1/4" in diameter. Also, the many different sized nose bushings help get a great rivet grip and the adjustable nose allows for different arm spreads. I have used this company's products for over 40 years and this unit does not disappoint.

Astro Pneumatic is a high quality affordable rivet tool that will get the job done. Needed a 1/4” tool to set rivets for a power window regulator repair. Takers 5-6 pumps to pop the stainless steel rivets that I used. This tool did a great job. The only issue was that the nose was not long enough to set a rivet where the window glass connects to the regulator. Used a bolt for that. Would recommend this tool for quality, price, vale and easy to use.

No complaints about this riveter. It's easy to use, fairly compact, and supports a large variety of "blind" or "pop" rivet sizes and materials, though I have not tried 1/4" SS rivets. If you're looking for a high quality hand riveter that can handle larger sizes and stronger materials, look no further. The riveter is certainly optimized for versatility over speed—a trade-off for greater mechanical advantage. Thus, it may take multiple compressions of the handles to install a single rivet. If you're doing a lot of small rivets and value speed over power, this riveter may not be for you. The riveter is made in China.

I purchased a BOLT Jeep Wrangler hood lock for added security. The BOLT system comes with four 1/4 stainless steel rivets that needs a powerful riveter to install. After researching the reviews, I felt confident that this tool would be able to handle the job, and the price is perfect for a tool that is not often used. I am pleased to say that this tool comes with very good and easy to understand instructions. The only thing that threw me a bit off was the size markings, which are not in fractions (1/4), but in decimals. The instructions convert this for you on a chart. Without going into much detail, it worked very well. You will need to have some significant arm strength for 1/4 SS rivets, but the tool powered through it. I used an Auto Zone riveter once for a project a couple of years ago, and it broke on the first rivet. This is a sturdy tool, and is now another option for future projects that I would not have considered otherwise.

Good product. Worked as it should. I use it with 3/16 inch stainless steel rivets. Some of the cheaper riveters that I used could not handle the job.

so i bought this "nice" rivet gun to replace an old crappy broken regular one. i finally get all of my internal door parts in for my restoration project and i am super excited to get this finished so i can go for a drive. all of the parts go in super easy which never happens and i'm finally ready to rivet on my new freshly powder coated door panels. I clamp the panels in place drill two dozen 1/8" holes and get out my shiney new Astro 1423! i open the jaws, put the stainless rivet into the jaw and pull the handles about half way down until i feel it grab the rivet. I stick the rivet firmly in the hole and press the handles together, again and again and again. It takes about ten pulls to get one 1/8" diameter 1/2" long stainless rivet to set. i point the rivet gun up to the sky and open the jaw and clink the post goes into the container. 3 hours later i have 16 rivets done; some taking over 100 pumps to set. Keep in mind that the heat index is 116. At this point i am looking at the neighbors goat wondering if a blood sacrifice will help. I'm sweating, tired and getting sore from pumping these damn handles. I give up and go inside to soak up some AC, I decide that the tool is a lost cause so i might as well take it apart and see what is going on. I quickly figure out that the tips are all different lengths and this sets how wide the jaw opens. So i grab a few washers and put them in between the tip and the giant nut it threads into which should keep the jaws from opening as wide. Not only does it grip the 1/8" shank it grabs immediately instead of half way through the pump. No more pointing it at the sky and closing the handles to "set" the jaws. they set immediately like every other rivet gun i have ever used. I go outside and finish the last 6 rivets in a matter of minutes with each rivet setting in 3 full even pulls. Word to the wise if you buy this expect to have to tinker with the tip spacing to get it to work properly. Wish i would have known this three hours ago.....................................................

I have read many others experiencing failures from their rivet guns because they are only good for aluminium rivets.. this is the main reason why i went with this model for its reliability and ease of use. The maker has decades of experience in this field. I am building 2x 3m x 1.58m x 2.08m sheds and requires the use of over 400x 316 Marine Grade Stainless Rivets. This tools consistently delivers excellent results. Sure enough sometimes it can get stuck. But thanks to the fully serviceable modular design, you can quickly dissemble the mandrel assembly down to the 3 claws that locks on to provide the firm grip on the rivet. This way you can clear any blockage and get the unit up and running in no time. You can easily adjust the engagement point as well. Every aspect of the operation is fully adjustable. I can't get closed version if 316 stainless rivet from my supplier, but i use Silkaflex polyurethane sealant to seal off each stainless rivet. Both the rivet hole and the rivet top has been sealed to prevent leakage under severe weather conditions. Occasionally this sealant can cause issues to the grip, but you can easily clean the system and restore its normal operation. This is one of the best tools investments i have made recently. Highly recommended unit.

I was doing some gutter down pipe riveting with a normal 250 mm size hand riveter with 4.8 mm diameter aluminium rivets and it was a real challenge with just one had. Ordered the Astro riveter to complete the job and the contrast was amazing. It handled the 4.8 mm diameter rivets perfectly. Really a great tool for larger jobs. The bottle for catching the rivet pins after riveting is very useful.
