First things first - this lens offers probably 90-95% of the image quality of the equivalent Sony GM lens for a lot more reasonable price. It's not a budget lens by any means, but definitely a better value. For many photographers (me included) this is often my default lens, since it's good for everyday family and landscape photos. I carry a wider angle one as well, along with a telephoto zoom (70-200mm) to cover all ranges, but this is the one that I usually have on my camera. It's great for portraits on the 50-70 end, and is decently wide angle on the other end. With f/2.8 across the entire zoom range, it remains bright and allows faster shutter speeds when necessary. It's one of my heavier lenses, owing to lots of glass and a very durable all-metal case, but for the quality it's not that big of a problem (I shoot a Sony A7R5, which is a heavy camera to begin with so I'm used to it). Sharpness is first rate. With a 60 MP sensor, I can crop 50% or more and still get a super sharp image across the zoom range. Comparing it to the Sony GM it's perhaps slightly less sharp, but it's virtually indistinguishable unless I'm cropping to 90% or so. About the only downside, aside from perhaps wishing it were a little lighter, is that autofocus isn't as quick as you'd get from a Sony lens. We are in a world where focus is nearly instantaneous, so this one locks on faster than the best lenses/cameras in the world from 10 years ago, but occasionally it "misses" the target. That'a a rare circumstance, though, and has never been a real problem.

I own the Sony a7R III with the standard 28-70 zoom lens. Once I put this on my camera, I practiced a few macro, night shots, and some day as well. It was exemplary on all fronts and the professional quality far exceeded the kit lens. It has a quick autofocus, a clarity, color and contrast that most consumers and pros would find it their go-to lens. The bokeh is creamy and pleasing. I am not a pro any by any means, but my images are starting look that way. It is a perfect companion to the a7RIII and the a7III and the a7II. This is not for portability as the lens weighs 1.8 lbs. I can fit the camera and lens in my backpack with no sweat. I'm sure there are pros out there with bodies and glass that offer capabilities that trounce my gear.. It's not optically perfect and distorts at 24 mm. The corners are soft, and the reverse direction zoom ring took a bit of getting used to. Yet, most things are fixable in post and with 42 megapixels, I have plenty of pixels to frame the shot it slightly outside the composition and crop off the edges. If you want to take your photography to the next level, this is the lens. The Sony G equivalent is twice the price and better in many respects. The question is, is the additional $1200 premium price worth it? I don't and I am simply ecstatic over this slightly imperfect yet stunning lens. The images are macros I took the night I got it and couldn't sleep! The other is my living room.

I'm a real estate photographer and shoot a little bit of everything when I'm not working. I did a lot of research on 24-70mm & 28-70mm lenses before deciding on this one. While it is cheaper than the Sony brand version, you would never know this isn't absolutely top of the line! For one, this lens is HEAVY. And while I have gotten wrist pain from lenses before (where your wrist braces!) it feels high quality and sturdy. You can easily tell the difference between this lens and a cheaper, plastic bodied one. It's also not too huge, since it expands when it zooms. The autofocus and manual focus are top notch. I've gotten sharp photos with this, even at the largest aperture. Also, I can (almost) shoot it all! My main interior lens is a 12-24 f/4, so with that lens and this one, I'm covering 12-70 bases. Pros: High Quality Cheaper than the Sony brandname one Sharp & quick focus Expands when it zooms and withdraws into the lens when you zoom out (can't think of the proper words) Locks the zoom when not in use Cons: HEAVY (but worth it) The lens hood is massive and a pain to pack when not in use Haven't used the Sony brandname, but know it's probably slightly better than this I almost went with the 28-70 after watching Mitch Lally's Youtube videos, but here's my reasoning for choosing this one: More zoom options Higher quality, built to last Sharper

In my opinion, the 24-70 2.8 zoom is the first high quality zoom that anyone should get for the camera. I moved from a Canon dslr to Sony mirrorless 9 years ago. I still kept my superb Canon EF 24-70 2.8 II lens and adapted to Sony A7R series, without any major issues on autofocus ability. Recently I have been shooting video along with my photography and realized that an adapted lens doesn’t do as well autofocusing in video. The Sigma seemed to be the first choice with price to performance being very good. I was really surprised at how good this lens was for both photography as well as video. The focusing was excellent on both video as well as still photography. This lens is actually made in Japan, which is a rarity nowadays. The colors are beautiful and the sharpness is excellent. It is also priced reasonably. I wish the rebate was in effect when I purchased it, but am happy for everyone that purchases it now with the $100 off. Highly recommended.

What more can be said about this lens that has not already been said? I have owned many sigma lenses and they have all been great. This lens is SUPER sharp, has fast focus, great colors and contrast. The bokeh is also beautiful and has fantastic falloff like the other art series lenses. This lens has a look that just cant be easily described. It looks "dreamy". I cant recommend this lens enough. The version ii of this lens was recently released. I went with the older version because it is cheaper and the new version is slightly lighter and slightly smaller. The new version will have the linear focus motors but to me it was not worth the extra money. I have also owned the tamron 28-75 vc g2. That lens was also great but I much prefer having 24mm on the wide end as it makes a big difference in some situations.

Pros: This quickly became my goto every day lens. I feel like the pictures are clearer than the original stock lens. It's just generally easier to work with. It's slightly wider for landscape too. I will say it's not amazingly better than the stock lens. But. The color seems sharper. It does better with high contrast images. Better night performance from what I'm experiencing. It's easier to defocus. If you just take day photos in natural light. It's a marginal improvement. I might suggest spending on a different specialty lens instead of replace your stock lens. Especially if money is an issue and you can only get one lens. Where I think you'll most notice a difference is during golden hours or after sunset. So if you pixel sleuth and you really care about that. Or if the types of pictures you take are varying. I would say this is a decent replacement for the stock lens. Again. It's not a huge step up. The price is a little high imo. So you need to consider the price, but ive been happy with it. It also seems pretty durable. My camera latch on my backpack broke and I watched it and my camera go bouncing down the mountain a few feet. Cleaned it up. Works just fine. No camera damage either. Probably a 10ft drop and another 10ft roll. Roughly. I've probably taken over a thousand photos with it so far. Cons: I do notice it's not as good with speed shots as the stock lens. Occasionally you can get the auto focus a little confused. Which I think is part of it. Adjusting the framing slightly fixes it. It does make a little Louder noise focusing. But I mean I have tinnitus and it's quiter than that so it doesn't bother me. But I do notice it here and there. The other thing I notice is that front glass is extremely delicate. I know I said I dropped it. But I had several scratches before then. I've never seen a lens scratch so easily in my life. I have 5 year old lenses ive completely abused that have less scratches. It's not affecting pictures quality far as I can assess yet. But just be aware. I would treat that front glass much more carefully than any of your other lenses. Keep it protected etc. Honestly this is the main reason I gave it 4 stars. I don't take a lot of speed shots. So the af issue don't affect me in any way.

Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN Art for Sony E Lens ,Black If I could give this lens more stars, I surely would! I sit about 4 feet away from this lens and the optical zoom has a PERFECT field of view. I can go wide or tight and it accommodates my distance from the lens perfect for live video broadcast. It gives a realistic look to your proportions. You will not regret this purchase. The manual zoom is a must-have and it is rugged and the full frame sensor makes it perfect for my Sony A74 or anything else in that class! I could rave all day about this lens but, I think you get the point. I don't use it for photography but I am sure it will perform likewise with near perfect specs.

Incredible lens I use this like 80% if the time really good focal length for wide angle and mid zoom, images come out very crisp

I am an amateur photographer who takes a lot of portraits for friends and family and does an occasional paid shoot. I currently am building my lens collection. To be honest, when I want top quality portraits I usually go with my 85 mm prime lens. However, when I am out and about with my family and want to capture good candid shots, or am taking photos for my school (I am a teacher by profession), I use this lens. The photo quality is very sharp, the color is great. I am very happy with the functionality of this zoom lens. I would not hesitate recommending this lens for those who are on a bit of a budget over the competition. My experience with this lens has made seriously consider the Sigma 70-200 mm 2.8 Sport as a budget alternative to the Sony's version II of the same lens.
