Kill unwanted trees, bushes, and grape vines by applying on the stump after a fresh cut.
We have a large garden area surrounding a 2-level patio that had been let go for over 10 years when my elderly mother lived with us. Last year, we decided to clean it up but it was so overgrown with weeds, honeysuckle bushes and trees that had grown from fallen seeds, the task was insurmountable for 2 people in their late 70's. So, we hired a landscaping company to clean it up and to remove all of the unwanted bushes and trees. $7500 later, the garden area did look nicer even if they had removed some of the trees we wanted to keep and cut back and trampled on most of the hostas, brunnera, and other perennials. This year the weeds came back with a vengeance. The wild raspberries, honeysuckle bushes, and trees had been only cut back to stumps. So, they were all growing back. Since the raspberry bushes are shallow rooted, they were easy enough for me to dig out. While I removed weeds a section at a time and transplanted some of the perennials as needed, my husband dug out some of the smaller stumps, but some were just to large to remove with a shovel and a pick.. I found out about Bonide stump remover on a YouTube video and decided to try it on some of the larger stumps. This stuff really does work!! Using the brush applicator it doesn't seem like you are using enough, but you don't need much to kill a stump. We had a grapevine climbing a walnut tree that had a 3" diameter stem attached the tree and growing at least 50' into the tree. I pulled it away from the tree and cut it off with a saw at ground level. Then I applied Bonide Stump & Vine Killer to the stump. So far, this vine has not regrown or sent out new shoots. Still haven't figured out how to get the dead vine out of the tree, though. I have also stopped new growth on a walnut tree stump and a few honeysuckle bushes. Fortunately, the landscaper left a 2"-3" stump in most cases, so I cut off the top 1"-2" and apply Bonide to the fresh cut. This is important as the cut needs to be fresh for the stump killer to be absorbed by the stump to kill the roots. So far this stump and vine killer seems to be working and has help quite a bit in the cleanup of our garden area. I would recommend this product, but make sure you apply it to a fresh cut. I have added a couple of pictures of the patio garden and a couple other areas after cleanup to give you an idea of the size of this project. UPDATE 11/12/24: It has been over 3 months since I treated a number of bush and tree stumps in addition to a few huge vines that were growing up our trees. At this point, I have seen no new growth on any of the stumps and vines that I treated with this Stump & Vine killer. This stuff really does work. UPDATE 7/28/25: This year I continued with the cleanup around our patio and around the house. We had let the landscape go for a number of years and in that time huge grape vines, wild raspberries, honeysuckle bushes, and quite a few unwanted trees had planted themselves and grown quite large. This year none of the trees, bushes, and vines that had been cut and treated with Bonide Stump and Vine killer had grown back. To continue the cleanup this year, I tackled a large area in the front of the house with 3 large evergreen trees that had been overrun with weeds, wild raspberries, and grape vines grown 20 feet into the trees as well as unwanted 6-7 foot honeysuckle bushes and box elder trees that had planted themselves. One of the grape vines had more of a trunk than a stem with multiple side growths that went everywhere. I used a lopper to remove the stem growth and pulled the vines out of the surrounding trees and bushes. I used a trowel to remove the soil from around the base of the main trunk, and used a hand chain saw to cut this trunk below ground level. Then I coated the fresh cut with Bonide Stump and Vine killer. I did basically the same to remove 4 box elder trees, 3 honeysuckle bushes, a black cherry tree, and buckthorn bush. I am a 78 year old woman, and I am not about to try to dig out the roots of all of the large plants that I removed although I did remove all of the weeds and wild raspberries. This area was about 30' x 7' . Once cleared, I covered all of the ground with mulch to discourage future weed growth. This area now looks so much cleaner and nicer, and I am sure the trees and bushes I treated will not grow back. I have to say I am so happy this area is done. I hope this review was helpful for you.

Stump Killer Works
This actually worked for me. None of the stumps that I've put it on have new branches growing. I didn't need it for vines, but I'm sure it might work for that as well.

Excellent Product, just Needs Better Packaging - Leaks in Shipping
Product packaging needs to be improved for shipping the product. I got an order and had to get a replacement due to the bottle leaking. The replacement was leaking slightly as well. Need to be better, this is the reason for 4 stars. Product works great. Ensure to follow the instructions (cover the stump or cut pieces of wood at the grain with the product in quick time from being cut). Worked on multiple tree of heaven (invasive species) that grow like wildfire for a tree. Many applications to treat invasive species of trees/plants or even to just ensure you don't have continued growth for a tree or bush that was cut down. Great product, needs better packaging.

Die, bush honeysuckle, DIE!
A lot of people around here think that invasive bush honeysuckle is native (!!). One of those people was the previous owner of my home, and she'd let the stuff grow absolutely everywhere. Where it had been cut back in years past, it had simply suckered and spread. All along the creek...bush honeysuckle. Entire north side of the property line...bush honeysuckle. It had completely choked out everything else. We bought the property with the intention of making the whole yard a garden for butterflies, birds (especially hummingbirds), and bees, but first, I had to get rid of the bush honeysuckle menace! I had someone come in and cut it down, and as he cut, I went right behind him, painting the stumps with Bonide 274. I chose a day when I knew it wasn't going to rain for a while, so it sucked that brush killer right up. I actually bought this stuff last spring, but didn't review it because I wouldn't know for sure that the honeysuckle was dead until a new growing season had started. The honeysuckle growing in the woods nearby is starting to leaf out nicely, but the honeysuckle I treated with this stuff is quite dead. It didn't grow back last spring, or last summer, and there's no sign of it this spring, either. The small stumps near the garage were roughly 2" diameter, and digging even those out alive would have been a huge job (been there, done that), but I didn't so much as break a sweat removing them because the roots were dead, and after nearly a year of being dead, quite brittle. Popped them out with a shovel in just a few minutes. This stuff doesn't remove stumps, of course, and you'll have to wait until they're brittle to dig them as easily as I did, but it does kill bush honeysuckle, and as far as I'm concerned, the only good bush honeysuckle is dead bush honeysuckle. If I thought they'd use it, I'd buy a case of it and distribute it to my neighbors!

Amazon packaging sucked
Product works good, I've used it before. Shipment came with it leaking and crusty, which is an amazon packing issue. There was a leak protection sticker on it and it still leaked over other items.

Excellent solution!
I do my best to avoid herbicides but I had a large area of highly invasive vines & trees on a property I just bought. I hand cut then painted the stumps with this in 2024 & nothing I treated came back in 2025 including wild grape, wild blackberry, several invasive trees & bushes. And….lilac bushes, lilies, and Jacob’s ladder plants that were in among the vines & trees i treated are growing well. I just bought a new bottle to continue with a new area of my property.

Don't know if it will work yet as only just painted the stumps, but bottle arrived damaged, leaking and only half full . Would have returned for refund but planned the cutting down so had to use it on that day
