I use them to check my mics, calipers, and height gage. Only the nominal length is calibrated. Grade AS-1 means that they are calibrated to plus or minus 0.2 microns. The rule of thumb is to use a gage block calibrated to a level 10 times more accurate than the tool you will use it to check. In this case, Grade AS-1 is sufficient to check my micrometer with a resolution of 0.002mm.
