Rust-Oleum 270976 Advanced Synthetic Shellac Primer, 1-Gallon, White

I recently moved into my landlords house where he smoked inside heavily. Especially inside his bedroom. The walls were the color of egg yolk from the nicotine. The smell was unbearable. We steam cleaned the carpets about 4 times and the smell was still very bold and in your face. So my wife and I searched for a paint that could cover the stains and kill the smell. After watching reviews on this, we gave it a try and wow, it works like a charm. 1 nice layer of this paint and 1 layer of normal paint and the smoke smell is completely gone. I'm impressed. Some areas it needed a thicker coating or 2 coats but I cannot complain.

Used this on outdoor metal fixtures before repainting. It bonded well after proper surface prep and provided even coverage. Dried smoothly without heavy runs. Good base coat for durability. Its the only product to use a primer on doors where the wood grain keeps bleeding through latext paint. This provides for a good cover and then you can pain over it and the grain wont come through.

This product is excellent for sealing drywall from smoking and candles, it sprays/rolls easily and is water based so clean up is no problems. I use this product on rental properties and it works great. Just hope price will come down some.

I used them before painting my pine cabinet doors. Great coverage so knots or any wood tone will be neutralized before you paint. It also comes off easy enough if you would like to sand it to make sure to have a smooth texture. Very effective and it will save a time and paint since you won't need to paint as many the layer.

I don't know if it was my spray gun. But this product with the Advanced Synthetic added to the label, did not spray well out of my spray gun. I purchased this as the labels are very similar, However, should not be confused with the Zinnser BIN Shellac base oil Primer - Interior & Spot Exterior Primer Ultimate Stain Blocker, which sprayed beautifully with my sprayer. Cost of the Advanced Synthetic is $20 lower in price, but not worth the spraying difference for me. It may be worth it if you plan on brushing or rolling. I should have taken a side by side view of the differnce. I sprayed two bookshelf units. One with each. I ran out of my original after finishing with my first shelving unit. and ordered the advanced synthetic. I even cleaned my gun very well since I had to order and wait a couple days before I could get back to spraying again.

Came across this primer on Youtube, first bought it from Lowes; but it's 75 dollars so it's bit pricey. Glad I can find it online here for around 50ish dollars. It does appear watery, but came to realized it's normal. Mix it as best as you can, for me 3 coats of this on wood.. (which is what I primarily bought it for) does wonders. Of course I sand the wood trim and doors, but after painting it with this primer three times it almost looked like it didn't need paint. I also used this in the closet to hide previous marks that was there before I moved in and recently used it over a beige room wall. It came out wonderful after applying the paint after using this primer.
