Smaller stick for a smaller bowl. The rubber (black) end is the end I prefer for striking. The grey fuzzy end works too. I simply prefer the rubber end. Because the striker is double ended you cannot use it to swirl the rim of the bowl.

I got this for my singing bowls because some of the wooden mallets that come with them produce tinny sounds. This produces various tones, I love it.

For singing bowls, this is pretty light. I have a 10 inch bowl whose sound will fill a big room but not with this mallet. Very nicely made, with a tight felt ball, but I probably got the wrong size. Maybe perfect for xylophones or some other strike applications but not heavyweight in any way.

Disclaimer: I'm not a drummer. I play keys primarily, then bass, guitars in drop "D", ukulele, some drums, etc. These are at a great price. Really! Have you looked at the cost of mallets -- regardless of what material is on the striking end(s) -- at the major music retailer websites?!? Wow! Never would've guessed it was, ahem.. not unheard of to pay around $100 for a stick with which to hit cymbals, gongs, xylophones, marimbas, glockenspiels, et al... Anyway, make sure you order two! This item is just a single stick/mallet. So who has romantic notions of performing nice, smooth crescendos on the cymbals he previously used for lampshades around the house with something other than ordinary drumsticks, but then fails to buy a *pair* of them? THIS guy! :-(

Smaller than I thought. The rubber is black!? So when I use it on my WHITE singing bowl it leaves streaks of black on my bowl. The felt ball is too small even for my smaller brass bowl.

Received the Meinl striker a few months ago and am very pleased with the quality. I use it to create different resonance vibrations in my gong-style singing bowls during meditation. Highly recommended.
