Works as advertised
2015 VW Passat TDI brake booster removal. Tried to fabricate my own tool to no avail but this worked to release the plastic retainer first attempt. Important note that it requires significant force to release.

Works - with modifications
OK, so I read the other reviews before buying and bought it anyway. I'm at the point in my life where I'm willing to spend $34 for the right tool for the job. I'm done trying to do everything with a rusty screwdriver, pliers, and a hammer. This arrived quickly and well packaged. Quality seems good. However, as others have mentioned, it is too wide - at least for my application on a 2008 VW Beetle. I took the advice of another reviewer and cut 3/4" out and welded it back together. I'm lucky to have the means to do that. If you don't, do a little more research and make sure it's the correct tool for your application. Once the width problem was taken care of, it slipped right in there and I popped the ball of the brake booster rod right out of the plastic socket with almost no effort. It worked really slick.

its worth the money!
buy it, don't do any of the alternative suggestions for this job. I spent 15 minutes getting the booster disconnected from the pedal using this tool. the alternative will have you in the most uncomfortable position under your dashboard for at least an hour or more

Make your life easier
Had to do a brake booster on a Jetta and spent hours researching how to get by without the tool and a good hour of trying to remove the brake pedal from the booster before I decided to order this tool. Got the tool and literally 5 minutes later got it first try. Save yourself time and frustration and just buy the tool

Perfect for 2022 VW Passat
Works perfectly on a 2022 VW Passat. Trick is you need to get the fingers up high near the ball. Made it really easy

Unable to utilize on a 2009 VW Tiguan
Tool seems well built and from what I can tell on the videos I watched would work hypothetically... however on my 2009 Tiguan there was simply not enough space to gain leverage to remove the drum ball. Spent about 30 minutes trying everything configuration minus removing the air conditioner ducting that was blocking the tool. Then switched to simply breaking the white retainer which took about 2 minutes, I had ordered a replacement retainer along with the tool in case of this which ended up working great. The white retainer was less than $10 compared to the $35 cost of the likely one time use tool.

Watch your teeth when your pulling on it. It works in an abrupt manner when pulled with moderate strength.

Used this to extract the brake booster from my mk4 VW. This tool is removes the ball of the brake booster's shaft from the plastic socket on the back of the brake pedal. Ergo, the tool is indispensable for pulling good vacuum brake boosters from used vehicles, to use instead of VERY expensive new parts from the dealer or otherwise. My best advice: VW's own service manuals do a terrible job of describing how to use this tool. Seek out Thomas ExoVCDS' Youtube video on how to remove a clutch master cylinder - mid way through he shows how this tool is used. It takes 30 seconds once you know how and where to insert and lever the tool to release. Without that guidance, expect 10-15 minutes of frustration without even removing the rod from the socket. Buy the tool, watch the video on how to use it, and the tool will do it's task in under a minute, and will save you hundreds on new parts.

Is it expensive? Yes. Does it work as intended, yes. I just wish there was a better (i.e. clear) video of how to do it. You WILL need a light and mirror, else be prepared to recite all the swear words you know!

After reading about so many frustrated attempts to separate the brake pedal from the linkage, I decided to purchase this tool and not waste my time trying any other method. Took me about 4 attempts and it separated. In all it took about 10 minutes of trying. Well worth the money spent.
