The inside elastic waistband is not exposed but covered with Jersey material which makes the shorts very comfortable. I wear these for bed and they feel great. The size was on the smaller side. I wear size 42 pants and 3X fit comfortably. I like the shorts to be loose when sleeping and I use the drawstring to sinch up the waist if needed. I was originally thinking 2X however they did not have any available in Black at that size so I went up to 3X. I slipped them on and they fit perfectly so I'm glad I didn't get the 2X after all.
