The slicer is a very study slicer that has serrated blades that stay very sharp. The base works well and helps cut all the way through the apple. Wife and I have a bedtime snack of apple and cheddar nearly every night. Thanks to this, what I serve looks as good as it tastes. In food, presentation isn't everything but neat and symmetrical make a difference.SHARP edges will cut you using ordinary care so use more care than that when rinsing it, which is all the cleaning it needs. And be prepared to put some weight behind the cutting operation with apples.. Most of them act like a Granny Smith - hard, solidly packed and unrelenting.
