There are hikes for the dayhiker and the backpacker; for the novice and the experienced outdoorsperson; and for children and ther grandparents. Detailed camping information and camping sites are als included. Review: Needs a major upgrade - I have to agree with the other reviewers about the format of this book. My biggest issue with the book is that the maps are nothing more than what appear to be pencil sketches inserted into the hike descriptions. Very amateurish and not detailed enough. There's also a table at the beginning of the book that tries to summarize various characteristics of each hike, but it's too hard to read: it crams too much information into the table and the entries on each line don't exactly line up. Turning the table to landscape, using Excel-like technology to produce a crisp table and expanding some of the abbreviations would make it far more useful. This book won't be taking up space in my suitcase on my upcoming trip. Time to research another one. Review: Book for Hikers - Got this book a couple of years ago for our trip to Maui. Needs a major upgrade
I have to agree with the other reviewers about the format of this book. My biggest issue with the book is that the maps are nothing more than what appear to be pencil sketches inserted into the hike descriptions. Very amateurish and not detailed enough. There's also a table at the beginning of the book that tries to summarize various characteristics of each hike, but it's too hard to read: it crams too much information into the table and the entries on each line don't exactly line up. Book for Hikers
Got this book a couple of years ago for our trip to Maui. We took it with us and found that a lot of the places that looked so good, are no longer accessable to the public. It wasn't real helpful.

Useful book on hiking in Maui
This book was first printed in 1975 and my copy updated in 2007. The presentation is unsophisticated and amateur by today's standards. Though it has supposedly been updated, I suspect it looks much like it did in its first 1975 printing judging by the style and pictures. That said, this book contains useful information for planning the hikes I want to do on my next trip to Hawaii. OK, but could use a serious update from cover to cover.
