It will still "trickle" a very small amount of water when in the "off" position. This is because plumbing code does not allow a complete shut off after the mixing valve. **Q: Can this shower head be used as a hand held shower head?** A: As long as your extension hose has a standard male end that connects to the female end on the shower head . . . Then yes. **Q: Does this have any internal plastic parts or is it 100% metal?** A: It is high quality top to bottom and inside and outside. There is a rubber washer where it connects to the out flow pipe coming out of the wall which prevents any leaking. They feel great, save water, and work as advertised. Quality? I would give this product a 99 out of 100. I have two and both are the best shower heads l have used in any of my homes in 75 years. **Q: Does the 2.0 gallon head perform exactly like the 1.25 gallon head when its flow is restricted? Thanks** A: Yes. The spray exits the 2 gpm and 1.25 gpm with the same velocity. The only difference is the droplet size. I had to get the bronze version since it is the only one to comply with California's 1.5g requirement. The quality is impeccable. The water flow is ample with good force. It is much more water-saving than the one which I replaced. The flow can be reduced to a trickle while one lathers. I have a tankless water heater, but have not had any problems with the water heater shutting down. Of course, it shuts down when the flow is reduced to a trickle, but when the flow is resumed, there is no interruption of hot water since hot water remains in the line. Except that there was more of a pins and needles feeling to the spray, thin high pressure streams that I found rather harsh. Not so here!I have very long hair and it now takes me half the time to rinse the shampoo and conditioner out of my hair, thus saving me time in the shower; leading to even more water savings.Those big rain drops are powerful yet gentle, not needle like. My morning showers are so enjoyable, yet speedy as well.The most useful feature is the drip switch.
