This is a fantastic book for anyone wanting to learn Erlang, it has helped me tremendously accelerate my learning. Sure you can read it for free on the web, but I wanted to support the author and I find it faster to open the book to whatever section I need than to navigate a web interface. Besides it’s always nice to have something to read when the power goes out and you want to save your batteries! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Jam-packed with Content *by R***R on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on December 13, 2015* Some points I thought worth mentioning:* Hebert tries to teach on a level that is both for those who may be totally green, but also aware that his demographic is probably those who know a good chunk of computer science concepts and are fluent in other languages. Many will correctly claim Hebert's teaching style as humorous and quirky; I'd like to add that it takes the pragmatic approach, as well.* Concurrent application design is hard and Erlang can be a bit of a zoo, but the structure Hebert takes in the book is well paced and logical. Protip: read the chapters before you implement anything. Abstaining from implementing will help test your memory of the concepts at hand when you finally do code the examples in the book.* The book, like Erlang, is crammed with content. It's roughly 600 pages where its muse of Learn You A Haskell for Great Good is only half that. Again, Hebert is trying to get you acquainted and exposed while also touching on _important_ particularities (rather than bog one down in page long explanations of graph theory, for example. It came well packaged with no damage. It took nearly 1 week to arrive. I bought it for 26.25 bucks + shipping.Product:If you're an "aficionado" with new languages, different infrastructures and gimmicks, you may as well take a look on Erlang. Most of its concepts, if not all, came from barebones communication infrastructure. And with that, a lot of different and interesting solutions. Although functional, Erlang is quite a simple language to use. Some of its facilities can make your life as developer easier. There are some interesting projects built of Erlangs solutions (i.e. ChicagoBoss, Elixir). It is definitely worth a shot. As for the book, its really well written. Mr. Hebert gives some great good advices and insights all around the book. As well as maintaining a good sense of humor through out the book. Making it enjoyable to read. There a whole bunch of practical (complex) examples in the book.
