Works great for what it is
It's not real bright, but I like it. When I'm working on something In a tight space and need a small lantern this works fine. Also I like that it's not too bright. Can put it next to me outside at night without binding me. If I want a lot of light I have several makita 18v lights that fill that void. But for a small warm light to keep next to you with replaceable batteries I like it. Also like that it works with the 7.2v lithium batteries. It's a little too big to be carried daily as a flashlight though. It's also reasonably priced. You can almost buy 3 of these for a single 7.2v makita flashlight (which I also have but got on sale)

I like it.
Solidly built. I sure it will survive the beating it is going to get in the bottom of my tool bag. It converts from flashlight to lantern by rotating the lead from the down/reflector position to the up/beam position. The lantern is great for lighting up a work area. Used it for the PG&E PSPS. Put it next to the mirror in the bathroom and we had plenty of light. Flashlight function is ok. There are much better and much cheaper led flashlights out there. If you have a few BL13 or BL14 batteries it is a great light. Two years later, I still really like it. It is a solid unit. While they (I now have two) lives in my tool bag, we use them more as emergency lites, and we take them camping. They are perfect for power outages. Second Edit. Now I have four of them. Pretty sure Makita is phasing out the 12V max series. Fortunately the knock of batteries I have purchased seem to work well, so may collection of 12v max tools will continue to work.

Superb for it's intended use.
This is a small "lantern" that gives off plenty of light in the immediate area that you want to conduct activity. This is the lantern that I would want nearby when the power went out in my house. or in your camping tent, or at your bedside. It is your personal companion in the dark and will go about 4 hours on a Makita charged battery; on a generic after market brand 3 AH battery over 12 hours. The lens can be rotated to act as a flashlight for safe navigation around things. Perfect tent light while camping. If you keep it nearby you will be surprised how much you use it.

Works well, I ordered another one
Flashlight mode is more of an area light than a spotlight but is plenty bright for working on a project, and the lantern mode is nice and bright too.

Unless you have many Makita tools the battery that’s required you will have to order it with charger. I was expecting a little bit bigger flashlight and brighter for the price. It’s ok.
