He holds his head up now, but if he puts it down, it lands on the inflatable part out of the water. The floatie allows a little to come between the two inflatable areas to allow him to splash and play with little pool toys. The sun protector part was the weakest aspect of it. It may have broken after being weighed down with water at one point. It no longer locks into place and starts sagging. Because it can hold water, it will be susceptible to filling up if you flip it over to rinse it. Just be careful with it, and maybe yours will last. I wish the sun protector was detachable or possibly made of the mesh to allow water to come through to give it a longer life for those that aren't as careful. My 8 month old is only 14 lbs.** A: We had our daughter in it at 6 months and she was 12lbs. We always supervised and shoved a towel behind her.
