It is pretty soft metal. Prime Line and Defender are the same company. Defender brand is how this product is packaged and those are the cheap 4" and 6" brass strike plates at HD/Wally etc. Now this is a decent grade product and better than the HD/Wally junk but not even close to Don Jo etc which is real 12ga steel. I don't know what this metal is but I can bend it in the middle with significant pressure but that is not truly relative to its holding power. A thief would have to bust out the screws and 2x4 as well as the plate so it is pretty secure.This model does have a very nice nickel finish on it for the price. If you change out the screws for 3 inch stainless screws for another dollar it will hold really good. Actually you only need the 6 screws that will go into the frame. It doesn't matter the quality of the 1.5" screws much because they are only going into the 3/4" jamb. I managed to get 8 screws to bite into the frame but I removed the door outer molding so I could see where the screws were going. It was easy to chisel out the print for plate and I was pleased with the install.This product is also much easier to install than a larger or longer quality strike plate. The 1/2 inch tabs are a nice touch to add some stability too. All in all I am pleased with the purchase after installing it and it looks nice. It is way more hassle to install an 18" to 48" professional strike plate at $25 to $65+. This is kind of a nice happy medium for quality, installation and price. I was going to take a star away for being soft metal but it is priced good for what you get and I don't see it really having much impact on the situation.

Your existing door "holes" for the doorknob and deadbolt may not exactly match the door strike, so some customization may be needed. This is solid! Provides much more security than traditional plates in home doors. Use 3" screws if possible.I found it slightly overkill for my front door, so I used it on the garage entrance door. Personal taste.I used a separate plate for the front door that is just as solid.

Installed this with no modifications made to make it work. Feels like a solid piece of metal and it gives me piece of mind knowing our door is more secure. If someone tries to kick down my door, I will update the review to share the outcome.

I recently needed to change my locks so decided to make a few simple security upgrades as well. The best locks are only as secure as the door frame. Most door frames are made out of soft wood so that a simple kick or two will splinter and blow the tongue of the lock that extends only an inch or so into the frame easily through the small sliver of wood surrounding it. The simplest and cheapest way to bolster the integrity of the door is to have a thicker metal door strike and to secure it with long screws that extend beyond the soft door frame and into the adjoining wood studs. For a modest few dollars, this strike plate does exactly that. It's solid, attractive and cost effective. If you've never installed a strike plate before it's extremely simple, but be aware it might involve some tedious effort as well. If you're replacing, say, two stand alone plates, you'll need to create a channel this plate will fit into to be flush and functional. Make certain you have some nice sharp wood chisels and a hammer handy to accomplish that. It's a job not to be rushed or heavy handed with. I also chose to buy even longer screws than the ones supplied to make the door a bit more secure and to bite more deeply into the studs next to the door frame. There are security Strike Plates that extend the entire length of the door that also cost over 10 times as much, though offer even more security. But for the average home owner this product is a well worth the price and effort.

Catch plate is study and well built. Easy to install. I gave four stars only for quality of screws. Just be careful and pre-drill three inch deep holes for screws so they don't bind or you risk snapping the screws while tightening. Larger catch plate is much more secure than the two smaller catch plates that were provided by the lockset OEM.

I installed this in new construction. The two original small striker plates were installed in the typical cheap pine pre-hung door jam. This plate now ties in both striker plates into one large plate.Material is well made brush stainless and comes with six (6) 3 inch and three (3) shorter screws near the drywall side of the jam. The six long screws go deep into the frame of the house. I didn’t try kicking through like one of the other reviews (!) but absolutely know this is a far better installation than the factory door jam…and is inexpensive!I painted the wood with a can of black paint and I think it looks better than bare wood.Note: In my installation I had to mortise the jam because my gap was so narrow. It will give you a good reason to go buy some good chisels!

These were very easy to install. Strike plate and deadbolt latches. All was priced low enough. And the upgrade looks great.

I bought this as a replacement for my old two piece door lock combo of a handle and deadbolt. After years of house settling, my front door did not line up well anymore. The door could be opened with a simple push from outside. My son-in-law tried it one day with a little more force not realizing the deadbolt was also locked. It split the entire casing at the lock/strike-plate. Ever since we have had to lock the deadbolt to insure the door would stay closed. This helped me to replace them and screw them into the frame more securely with all of the new hole options. Door is sturdier than ever. Very happy.

It does the job and does it well.

Item was delivered in a couple of days. Product is sturdy and fits well. Had to widen the lock holes in my frame so the tangs would fit but that was expected. I used stronger SS screws as I have had screws snap on me when installing with a impact driver. The added security is welcomed. Found it for a cheaper price on Amazon a few days after receiving it so shop around Amazon for the best price.
