*** RECIPE ***
***RECIPE*** I have read through a lot of the reviews, it seems a lot of people are dissatisfied with the texture, and the difficulty in washing this out, but very pleased with the results. Let me share a recipe. This will allow you to get all of the wonderful benefits, without the mess, without the gritty texture and without drying your hair out. Take 8oz of coconut oil. Fractionated coconut oil works best as it stays in liquid form and will allow you to put the finished product in an 8oz pump bottle. Put the oil in a sauce pan (or better yet a mini crockpot โ I have a 16oz size that is meant for sauces and I use it for all of my DIY beauty products. Add 4 tablespoons of this powder, which is about 1/3 of the package. If you are using a saucepan, put it on the lowest setting. If you are using the mini crockpot it only has a warm function (not hot like the larger models) You are going to want to let this heat for an hour to an hour and a half, stirring periodically (more often when using the sauce pan) After an hour or so, let the oil cool, it will be a deep blackish brown. Strain it into a measuring cup using a funnel and a coffee filter. The oil should be a deep amber color. Do not throw away the โsludgeโ that will be left in the coffee filter, you want to keep this! Once the oil is strained, the 8 ounces that you started with will be about 6 ounces, to this add 2 ounces of castor oil. I like to add a few essential oils to this mixture that are known for hair growth/health like lavender, cedarwood, rosemary, sage, tea tree, thyme and frankincense. At a minimum, I would put some Rosemary in, as it is wonderful for your hair AND acts as a preservative. Even without the Rosemary, the prepared mixture should last about 6 months, though I go through 8 ounces of it in about 4 months, using it once every two weeks. Donโt add any water, this will cause it to go bad! I put this in an 8oz pump type bottle, use glass or PET plastic, especially if you add essential oils. Then, once every two weeks, I use about 10 pumps to coat my past shoulder length hair and wrap in a plastic cap and then a large sleeping cap, and leave it on overnight. There is no grit and no mess, just wash it out (easily) in the morning. Now for the leftover โsludgeโโฆ put this in a 2oz glass jar (or PET plastic jar) and add a little more coconut oil to make it smooth. This will be a very dark brown. I then โpaintโ this on my gray roots, with a dye brush. I leave this on for an hour or two. It changes my grays from gray to a light golden brown, they look like highlights! This has the grittier texture that others have spoke of, but I donโt coat my hair in it, so it is not that messy or gritty. It will stain though, so cover the area with dark (or old) towels. I hope you found this a helpful alternative to just making a paste, and I hope it helps you get the benefits you are looking for without the grittiness. Good luck experimenting! P.S. This is NOT for blondes, it will turn your hair grayish!

Winner
So far, I have used this product twice as a hair mask and four times as a face mask. I have about 20 inches of straight, very fine Asian hair, the bottom 6 inches of which has been badly damaged by coloring, various chemical treatments, and daily heat-styling. I've noticed a lot of split ends and breakage, and my hair is rather brittle with an alarming amount of fallout. In the past year or so. My hairdresser even noticed some thinning in the forehead area over one of my eyebrows. Although my hair is naturally dark brown to black, I've noticed light brown coloring where my hair suffers the most damage. First time I used Amla as a hair mask, I mixed it with water and found the consistency difficult to work with. I tried to mix in some coconut oil to help even out the consistency. Made a mess, but I put it through my hair anyway, trying my best to push the muddy goop toward my scalp to get some new growth going. Left the concoction in for about 30 minutes. (I was afraid to leave it in longer in case it was bad for my hair.) After washing the mixture out, I noticed my hair was a LOT softer, especially the first couple of inches near the root. Also noticed a bit more shine, also near the top. About a week later, I tried to make an Amla hair mask again. This time, I tried to put the coconut oil in my hair first, then add the Amla. I do not recommend this method. I don't think the Amla was able to penetrate too well. Will experiment yet another method next time. After the second Amla mask (this time left on overnight in a plastic shower cap) I washed it out and found my hair very clean, shiny, and agreeable. The damaged lighter brown parts of my hair are now a deep mahogany hue, which I love, and my hair holds a straight style straighter and a curly style prettier and for a longer period of time. Even the baby hairs around my forehead seem healthier and stronger. Once I get my technique right, I think the Amla will work wonders for my hair. But where I've noticed the BEST results is on my face. I love Amla as a face mask because it's so much easier than using it in hair, and the results are PHENOMENAL. The first two times I used it on my face, it was leftover mixture from my hair mask. When I make it specifically for my face, I mix it with a bit of ACV and water. I leave it on my face until it dries, then I add water and gently move my fingers over the mask in circular motions until it washes off. Afterward, my face feels soft, fresh, and smooth. This mask has worked better than anything else I have ever tried in evening out my complexion and making my skin look fresh and splotch-free. I initially had my doubts about this product, but I am now a believer. I've already put in a second order so I have plenty for both my face and hair. Highly recommended for anyone.

Followed Krissu's regimen with shining success
Highly recommended. I was inspired by Krissu's and others' reviews, and bought Amla, Brahmi, and Kalpi, which I have used 3 times a week for 4 weeks. My hair, which had been quite dull and dry, developed a lovely sheen and became very silky right away! I have very fine graying, light brown hair. I do want to mention that although I did not prepare the Kalpi powder in a metal/cast iron container, I found that my hair has in fact lost its gray since using it. So if you wish to keep your gray (as I do) I recommend skipping the Kalpi, to be on the safe side. However, if you're interested in restoring your hair to your original color, the Kalpi seems to be a healthy and natural approach to try. As Krissu recommended, I prepared a paste of the powders and a conditioner, to which I added oil. (I had some leftover pure Castor oil, so that's what I used.) After coating my scalp and extending the paste to the roots, I ran water over a bandana, lightly squeezed it out, and wrapped it around my hair 1940's style (Think Lucille Ball in I Love Lucy on housecleaning day) Topping that with a shower cap keeps the paste moist, which I'm guessing is useful. I leave it on as long as possible, sometimes overnight. The difference in Krissu's mother's experience and mine re whether the Kalpi imparts a darker tone may be due to the length of time I left it on. Yes, it's a mess to wash out, and if you have an old fiberglass tub, it can be hard to scrub the stain from it. So I now rinse my hair out in our stainless steel sink. I sometimes use a paste of baking soda and water for the last shampoo - it's economical, gets the oil out and also promotes silky hair. I then follow with a rinse of 1T vinegar and 2 cups water, or nettle tea. I'm interested to learn whether this mixture stimulates growth of new hair. I'll report back in a few months. Sounds like results vary, depending on what triggers hair loss in the first place.

Use for hair and skin
I henna my hair and use this for toning down the red as well as enhancing my waves (henna can relax wavy hair over time). Hard to rinse out and messy, be sure to clean your tub or it will leave brown streaks. It also leaves your hair very dry as it is an astringent so be sure to use a deep conditioner afterwards. I read on a beauty blog that this makes a great facial masque so I mixed it into a paste with warm water and WOW! My face is super soft and smooth, plus it cleared up some blemishes. I like this a lot and will buy again.

Miracle for my hair
I kept reading about the hair health benefits of amla powder, both inside and outside. This version isn't for consumption but I did want something to add to my hair masks to help thicken my hair. It had thin out pretty badly twice in my life. When I was at my sickest and got back 2 back MRIs and when my body turned on me yet again due to immune system issues. I was desperate and needed something. I already take hair vitamins, vitamin D (had a deficiency), protein powder (drinks), a collagen supplement, and MSM. The combination of these things helped a lot but this amla powder took my hair to the next level. I use it in two different ways- clay mask or as a component in my conditioner. It strenthened my hair and thickened it in areas I never thought I would see thicken again. It also made my hair shiny too. My hair is mid back length, past my back bra strap. I am in my 40s and this is the longest my hair has even been in my life. I NEVER had long hair growing up. Next time I blow dry my hair straight which isn't often, I will update this review with a picture. Now I wish I would have done a before and after. Anyway, I recommend this product for anyone looking to thicken, soften, or strengthen their hair. Oh and you don't have to use much and also, it's messy. Be prepared with a plastic bag to keep it in.

Powerful hair treatment
Like its natural no chemical. Pic #1 Mixed well with grape seed oil, neem oil, Rosemary etc. I made all the oils except grape seed oil. Dislike a small amount in package. Seave powder before putting it in your hair it as little seeds after washing they come out no big deal. I didn't know about the seeds so the 1st time I was wonder what's this then I read someone else's review and I saw ohh. 2nd treatment I didn't mind I left it in for 3 to 4 weeksHowever I have 4c hair and it drys my hair our so I oil every other day.
