Review: Great supplement for sleep! - My sister and I have suffered from stress sleep deprivation for years. I’ve tried all the prescribed and OTC sleep aids, nothing works. My sister put her foot down and asked our doctor what VITAMINS there are that support sleep and stress and finally, 5-htp was mentioned. My husband and I have been using Thorne supps for years so I was very excited to see they had this product. I bought it immediately and I am elated to share that 2 months later, I am sleeping like a BABY!!! Like a freakin BABY!!! I take it 45 mins before I want to be asleep and I don’t even make it through an episode of my show before I’m knocked out. I especially love the fact that it doesn’t make me feel like a zombie when I wake up. In fact, I now wake up on my first alarm. No more snoozing until the last minute. My boss loves that I’m taking 5-htp too now that I’m regularly on time to work!
Review: Really helps with depression and anxiety. - I have been tapering from 60mg of Cymbalta (I'm down to about 2.5mg now) for almost 3 years. It's been totally brutal and horrible despite how slow I have taken it. I've been taking 5htp since I got down to about 25mg of Cymbalta. THERE IS NO WAY I would ever make it through the taper without taking this 5htp. Not all 5htp brands are equal. This is the best one I have found, probably because it has the methylated B-6, and because Thorne is a generally a good quality brand to begin with. Cymbalta is an SNRI- the 5htp only boosts serotonin and not norepinephrine (just a side note, on the off chance that someone reading this is tapering off an SNRI), but still, I can't emphasize enough how much it has helped me. There are other supplements one can take to help with Norepinephrine...I haven't found one that works for me yet, but everyone is different. Also, other vitamins I take, such as vitamin d, methylated b12, and methylated b complex, have been game changers. My son (17) also has depression and anxiety. He takes this 5htp, a super high quality fish oil, vitamin D, methylated vitamin b complex, and a multivitamin. He is literally two different people depending on whether he is taking his supplements regularly (we're on good streak currently, he's been taking them nearly every day for over two months and is feeling great). I almost never write reviews, but something told me to tonight. Who knows, maybe it will help someone. :)

A: My father had gout and while I don't have gout, I get fibro-like symptoms from anything that comes from a legume.  I had hoped to find a source of 5-HTP that is not derived from beans, guess I'm SOL also.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It really works

Without disclosing the specific medical situation involved with a close family member, I will say that this product truly does work, and has totally replaced previous prescription medication. As a retired healthcare provider, I am very familiar with the prescriptions available to treat certain conditions, as well as the fact that 5-HTP can be an excellent alternative. In this case, this particular brand in the right dosage works very well. As with any condition and personal differences, your experience may be different. But in this case, I can confidently say that this specific product should not be blamed if you don't get the results you are looking for. Physicians often have to change dosages and even medications to meet the needs of each patient, and lack of positive results may not be the fault of the specific medication (or in this case, OTC alternative). This works! And the company seems to be one of the very best. We've switched to their brand on a number of products, and been pleased with results.
