One of the most influential thinkers of her generation draws us into the lives of three women, all past their first youth, all facing unexpected crises in these three “immensely intelligent stories about the decay of passion” ( The Sunday Herald Times ). Suffused with de Beauvoir’s remarkable insights into women, The Woman Destroyed gives us a legendary writer at her best. Includes "The Age of Discretion," "The Monologue," and "The Woman Destroyed." "Witty, immensely adroit...These three women are believable individuals presented with a wry mixture of sympathy and exasperation." — The Atlantic Review: I really enjoyed this book of short stories - I loved this book. It was the first time I ever read anything by Simone De Beauvoir. It is difficult but I think the title story was my favorite, watching the character go down hill so rapidly and in such detail showing her growing obession was oddly relatable, her self hatred towards her body towards the end of the story I would not try and presume to state what the "moral" of the story was... but that is exactly what I am going to do about now check it.................... I think that the main Character should have developed a concept of self outside her marriage her marriage was her identity and when that fell apart she had nothing...no sense of self it was a compelling read a little uncomfortable but I like being a littel uncomfortable when I read............ Review: Middle-aged women in crisis - Excellent writing, but rather depressing (but perhaps accurate?).

Breath taking novel
I am not a fan of both fiction and non-fiction novels, my English is pretty bad as well. yet, here I am, and I'm planning on reading more in the future only because of this book. It's heartbreaking and breathtaking at the same time. Not saying the book is beautiful or any like that, but you will find yourself in a painful place when you read this. A painful feeling which makes you feel like you got stabbed in the heart but all the air in your lung is stuck out, no voice screams out and you can’t do anything with it.

Strong story, Weak book spine
The book itself was wonderful. Otherwise the physical structure of the book is weak and the pages began to fall off the spine reading halfway into the book. Recommend the book, and recommend another physical copy of the book.

The inner view of hopeless romantic heartbreak.
The stories could be depressing but somehow, they rise above. It's the beautiful soulful clear intelligent writing, I guess. These stories will ring true for any reader that has lost their favorite significant other. The middle story is especially amazing to me. It consists of the running inner dialogue of a woman on the edge. Nearly mad she rambles in the cleverest of ways. Ms. De Beauvoir is [was] a marvelous philosopher, writer, woman.

Truthful view, not philosophical
Love Simone, but a bit disappointed about this book. I thought it was gonna be about strong women overcoming bad relationships, but it is actually just a portrait of those bad relationships and the despair of women living it. Maybe I didn't pay enough attention before buying, as the tittle of the book is clearly "Woman destroyed", but I longed for a least some good philosophical debate in part of the characters; I didn't really got anything in that sense from any of the stories. In fact the first and third one have a similar theme, which made things kinda boring. Still struggling to finish the last 50 pages.

I did not know
I did not know Simon can write so beautifully. She’s definitely a humanist. Women are sitting ducks when it comes to love, but not loving is not a solution for most.

Know your worth as a woman!
A perceptive book describing the subtle damages women suffer from mental abuse

Ilegible

Review on the condition of the book not contents
The book arrived with half of it folded which created the start of a rip in the corner. I usually don’t mind some minor damage but I wouldn’t want it falling apart either. Plus the text is very thick, quite unpleasant to the eye, but I can look past that. Overall very unfortunate :(

The Woman Destroyed
It's amazing how some writers describe the way you feel, what you think of yourself and others, your reactions to certain events that are bound to happen in your lifetime. De Beauvoir makes you feel you aren't alone, that there are many others like you. Which can be baffling, as I started thinking - are we women all so alike? How boring! I liked the first and last of these 'episodes' in a woman's life. The central one is written in 'stream of consciousness' style with little punctuation. I found it rather repetitive and anger-fostering.
