30 Min. Hourglass Sand Timer Black 8"

Very classy "minimal' look. I use this as a visual reminder in my office. It is especially useful during meetings, so participants see their time is running short! It is more rugged than one would at first expect from its "delicate" appearance. I have timed this 30-minute hour glass several times to test its accuracy, and it averages within an unbelievable 3-to-5 seconds of actual time! Very impressive.

I timed this unit at 30 minutes and 8 seconds. It looks great and the class is very clear. Also it does not have a little cork or stopper holding the sand it. The glass is sealed and it does sit flat on a table. And no clumps! I had another one and the sand would clump if the humidity got high. Great timer.

I never had a larger hour glass and this one is perfect. No wood or metal supports to detract. It looks rather delicate but is well made. For an accent piece that does not take up a lot of room, you can't go wrong.

The good: it is surprisingly accurate, mine times at 29:56-29:57 in either direction. It looks fairly nice and elegant, though plain. Little flecks of a few pieces of the sand always catch some of the light in the room which adds to the look, especially if you were to want to focus on the flowing sand as a meditation aid (I use mine to time work though). The bad: despite being carefully packed with plenty of styrofoam, mine arrived with a very tiny hairline crack in one end. It isn't really noticeable unless you look for it. It might even be a deep scratch in the glass I guess., I thought about returning the item but it is so easy to just turn the hourglass and not see it at all and I was so impressed with the accurate timing and low price that I kept it. In general the glass feels thin, it would definitely break if dropped on the floor and it might even break if you knocked it over on your desk too hard.

This exact item sells for $38.00 at a high end store. I wanted to buy one and was willing to pay the price but, they ran out before I could get one. I wanted one so badly that I thought I would try Amazon and there is was at half the price. The piece is not only functional but, it's so unique especially with the black sand. If you have a job and need to keep on time, this is a great way to keep on time without anyone seeing you look at a clock, your phone or your watch. This is a win win purchase.

Cute hour glass, but I got it to serve as a true 30 minute timer for tea brewing. It worked in the beginning but now after two months the flow of sand has slowed down. I timed it this last time because I could sense the time wasn't adding up and it now takes about 36 min to go down. Unfortunately this was a total waste of money in the end :(

Wow. I took a gamble on this very inexpensive sand timer. It came very quickly, nearly 2 weeks early. It is not cheaply made, with thick glass. I timed it to be 30 minutes and 3 seconds. Good enough for me!
