There should be virtually no spill if you are using this. You can also you to pour household items and anti- freeze etc. But I'll just mention this because some guy out their might try to do both. Do not use for household use if your also going to use on car or with any other area because of possible cross contamination. I have another funnel that I use when pouring water or making juices and it stays in the home. This one I leave in my car because I always hate having to clean up or losing even a little oil when filling with standard 1 quart bottles or large 5 quart. Didn't need to hold funnel in place. I always had problem with other stem type funnels that would lean on it's side and needed to hold with one hand while pouring oil with the other. This funnel didn't have that problem. Used a 5 quart jug of oil to fill engine after oil change and had no drips on the engine. Didn't need to hold the funnel and was able to pour oil very quickly without oil trying to over fill the funnel or trying to leak out around the funnel. None of that pour and pause while funnel drains. The 5 quarts went in faster then a single quart would have done with a regular funnel. Around the spout are "fins" designed to allow air to escape when being used for liquids. I trimmed off the lower ring of "fins" and the spout will just fit into a gallon milk jug - BUT - it does not go into the jug far enough to be stable without holding the funnel.
