Does the phone work when the power goes out?

That depends on your carrier. if you have Spectrum like we do, your phone will not work if the power goes out and you lose cable and internet.

Is this made in China

According to Cortelco's website, this phone is "assembled in the U.S.A.", which would be at Corinth, MS. Cortelco's facility there was a previous ITT manufacturing location. That "ITT" name would translate to "International Telephone & Telegraph". For those over 50, the "ITT" name should have significance... for the younger crowd, maybe not. No doubt there are some "globally sourced" components used as in any current electronic devices. Cortelco offers a desktop (2500 series) along with this wall mount phone (2554 series) and even a "Trimline" (8150) that are assembled/made in the U.S.A.

Is the bell ringer an actual metal mechanical bell like the originals or does this have a digital sounding bell ?

This phone's ringer is made by a traditional bell. It is NOT digital. I intentionally bought this older phone because I wanted that older authentic sound and it is great!

Does it have answering with caller ID ?

Great wall phone but no caller ID.
