Sophie's Universe: Crochet-along

Such a fantastic book . I am very much a starter at crochet and couldn’t follow a pattern but this is clear , great photos , fab explainers and my blanket is coming along marvellously . I can see myself making this item a good few times in different colour ways . There are videos on YouTube if you get stuck - I’ve grown in skills so much that I don’t need to look at them now and I’m about a third of the way through . Feel like I can confidently follow a crochet pattern now. Highly recommend !

I learnt the basics of crochet years ago and have used my knowledge occasionally to combine with knitting projects. However I recently went on a beginners crochet workshop to refresh my basic knowledge. Seeing Sophie’s Universe I decided to have a go at this really lovely project. I am glad I did as the pictures and instructions couldn’t be better ..l I have probably completed about a third of the project and it’s so exciting as I love changing the colours and each round is different so you don’t get bored and I have to say it is looking so good and I will love it when it’s all done. If, like me, you are familiar with only basic stitches this is a great book to learn and you will love the work it creates. The only criticism is it’s in US terms but you soon get used to converting and if it had been spiral bound, that would of been a bonus. Lovely book, highly recommended and believe you me you will be hooked once you start ... I will use this book many times not only to make more blankets but to use the middle section for a cushion cover etc ... in fact if I have wool left over I will make a cushion cover to match. You will not regret buying this book.

Such a great pattern and the book is really well written, with easy to follow instructions and pictures with added notes, makes this book really easy and fun to follow to create a beautiful blanket. There are youtube tutorials that go along with this book, really enjoyed making this blanket and learning the different stitches. Highly recomend this pattern to anyone from complete beginners like me to experianced crocheters. Enjoy ☺

This book is amazing! Step by step written instructions with photos for every single round. The instructions are so clear and easy to follow. I would say a confident beginner could manage to make this blanket. If like me, you get a little bored from the same stitches and patterns, this book is for you. Every round is completely different so it’s like a fun journey/adventure. So addictive! I look forward to coming home from work and doing a few rounds every evening. The book is worth every penny. Very heavy and glossy paper. Also gives options for using different weight yarns and tells you how much you will need.

I have never come across a pattern book as beautifully written as this. It is as though I have a crochet teacher beside me as I learn each new step. I’m a confident beginner with knowledge of basic steps and am learning so much as I go along. The pattern works for Cotton, DK or Worsted and I can already see that I’m going to be able to use up my odd yarn very easily. I’ve only just started the blanket so can’t comment on the finished item but even if it’s not as I hoped , I will have learnt a tremendous amount along the way. The only thing I would mention as an improvement is that the book might be better if it had a ring spine. It’s okay as it is but I worry that if I keep pressing to keep pages open it will eventually get damaged and that would be an awful shame.

What a fantastic book. The book provides step by step instructions and photos that are clear and easy to follow. It is a joy to work from. If you are new to crocheting this book will not disappoint - if like me, you have been crocheting for years I have learned many new things along the way. It's a fun project - I highly recommend this book.

Oh my gosh. If you had never picked up a crochet hook you'd be able to start with this project. OK so in reality you'd need a bit of practice but it really is do detailed with step by step photos to show what you do. The rows you work on are even done in a different colour so you can see placement. Im loving it and glad I didn't print it (it's a free online pattern) because it has much more than I'd have printed. I bought this book after seeing it in my textile group. I ahven't had chance to try any of the pattern yet so can't vouch for its accuracy as regards any errors. What I can say is that all photographs are clear and the author is inspirational in her enthusiasm. It is even a good book forsomeone who is fairly amateur at crochet (I am only learning) because all stitches are clearly explained. I am really looking forward to starting a piece of work...only being put off by the price of the Scheepjes yarn so maybe I will just make a cushion cover to start off and then treat myself to a full project for Christmas or birthday...hey I deserve it!!!!

This was the first blanket I created...as a beginner even... and love it! The book was bought for me as a gift, I made the blanket, then lent my book to a friend, never to be seen again. I love it so much I had to buy book again to make another blanket! Full of very clear instructions amd many, many clear photos.

Ich hatte mich in diese Decke verliebt, als ich mit Sophies Garden eine Patchwork Decke für meine Mutter machte. Ich musste unbedingt diese Anleitung haben und habe es nicht bereut. Ich bin schon sehr gespannt auf das fertige Produkt. Die Anleitung ist super verständlich und die Bilder sehr hilfreich.

Per chi è appassionato di uncinetto, le spiegazioni sono molto chiare, ben corredate anche da foto per i passaggi più difficili e ci sono suggerimenti utili perché il lavoro proceda nel modo più soddisfacente.

Parece un libro muy extenso pero es porque trae muchas explicaciones y muchas ilustraciones. Muy bien explicado y muy fácil de realizar.
