Good news. Just spoke to Waterpik. They will replace the leaking part for free (One day out of 2 year warranty)
After 2 .5 years the battery gave out. Because how itwas listed when you put Waterpik into the search boox, a different irrigator is snuggled in below the waterpiks and says its the NEW AND IMPROVED version MISLEADING one to believe it is also by waterpik. I fell for it and after ordering it was dissatisfied. I chatted with Amazon and they said they would send me a new waterpk on SAME DAY SERVICE at their expense for the confusion. I am so pleased with my ointeractions with AMAZON on EVERY LEVEL (been with them for 3 years now) that I can not recommend the company more highly!. The new waterpik arrived 17 hours after talking to them (Amazon) and I now have the product that far outdoes the "new improved" model by another company. See my review of their item. It's great. I now mix the mouthwash I use in it with water (seems a 50/50 blend works fine) and it delivers as advertised. It runs long enough (ample amount in fact since I often have contents left over) Is light and maneuverable has 2 power ratings although I only need the hi setting. When I take it off the charger it seems to run forever! I left it off for over 3 weeks and it never stopped working. I put it back on the charger since my other items on my 2 outlets thinned out so I never did find it's maximum battery (non ac connect) point. I think I will recommend this battery to TESLA. I guess my only silly issue is how they created the hole stopper where you put the liquid into the holder. It works fine, don't get me wrong. But once you buy it, it LOOKS as though it will come open. (IT NEVER HAS) which is somewhat of a miracle of design Perhaps I should simply change my rating to 5 stars....lol Well the replacement came through and it does not leak. I am very happy they did replace it because when it coincidentally started dripping two years to the DAY (on a Sunday) that it was covered for on a 2 year warranty that I had no idea was in force, the kind lady at Waterpik realized how close I was to the deadline that she simply replaced it. I didn't even have to tell her that I tried first Amazon on Sunday who advised me to call Waterpik first in order to get this resolved. So as far as Waterpik knew, I was one day out of warranty and I didn't bother to tell her that I DID try on Sunday but they were closed. I feel good about them backing their product like this. However, when I asked if the replacement also had a 2 year warranty on it, she sadly said "no". ++++++++++++++++++++++++ Evidently I have had this 2013. As of today FEB 2016, THE BATTERY FINALLY STOPPED.I SEE ANOTHER PERSON RAN HIS FOR 8 YEARS. THIS IS ONLY 3 PLUS YEARS. I WILL LOOK INTO REPLACING THE BATTERY AND SEE IF THIS IS A BETTER SOLUTION THAN BUYING A NEW ONE, SINCE THEY HAVE UPDATED THE MODEL. I WILL RETURN AFTER INVESTIGATION.

Response to front page review
I agree with the front page review that this is a great product, however I don't agree with everything he said (the arrows indicate my comments): ---------------------------------------------- 1. It is so loud it will wake anyone sleeping. Coffee grinder loud! ** Yes I guess it is loud as it is near you ear while using! But not that loud to me(i.e. I am a bit hard of hearing) My woman says it is not that loud and she has great hearing** -----> It's definitely not as loud as a standard plugged-in Waterpik. That's like a jackhammer. I was pleasantly surprised that this one isn't too loud yet still has the same pressure. 2. The reservoir is so small it runs out in 10 seconds. ** Maybe this user has a leak in his unit. I use mine for about 30 seconds until all food is removed and I still have half of the water left. And yes I am using the High pressure setting. ** -----> Maybe your unit is messed up and its high pressure setting is really a low pressure setting. On the high pressure setting, the water runs out after probably 15 seconds. I fill it up once for each quadrant of my mouth, which means I fill it up a total of 4 times. If you are doing this at the sink, this is no problem at all because filling it up takes about 5 seconds. If you want to use this in the shower, you're out of luck. You're not going to be able to fill it up with your shower stream. What you'd have to do is turn the shower knob so the water comes out of the tub faucet and fill it up there. That would be a huge inconvenience. 3. The tip is so mobile (rotates all over the place), you can't control it. ** Mine doesn't. Of course I have only had it a month. ** -----> I don't have this problem either. It might move slightly, you just have to move with it. 4. It is poorly designed, too large, and difficult to hold (Can't imagine if you have small hands). ** I thought it was well ergonomically designed. I have nerve damage in my hand that makes it hard to hold on to things and get tops off of bottles but I had no problem holding the WP-450 Ultra. I think it is most excellent! ** -----> If you have small hands you could just hold it higher up on the neck where its narrower. You don't have to hold it at the basin, although I do. Although it is definitely surprisingly bulky, it has to be (I couldn't tolerate it if I had to refill 8 times). 5. Poor battery life, long charge time, no charge indicator. After two uses I needed to recharge! (yes I let it charge up initially for 16 hours!). ** I have only charged my unit for 8 hours and have been using once a day for a month. I has not slacked off one bit in pumping the water out. ** -----> Your unit must have an insanely good battery. I haven't counted but it definitely needs to be recharged after a few days. Also, as he said, there is no indicator or light or anything to tell you whether it is fully charged which is odd. 6. Expensive, Poor Value: Price is ~70% higher than the WP-360 ** Yes that is usually the case for older models. They usually do cost less than newer models as the cost of production is higher than years ago. It is actually 61.4 % higher in cost. The old unit uses Ni-Cad batteries as the new one uses more expensive L-Ion or NiMH batteries hence the higher cost and the L-Ion battery can hold a charge longer. ** -----> This device is extremely powerful at cleaning out the gums and could potentially save you thousands of dollars, or at least some extra pain, at the dentist. I don't know how it compares to other handheld waterpiks, but it's definitely so much nicer to use than the plug-in waterpiks which sound like jackhammers and take up so much space. If you hate wires, this is for you. 9. Weak water stream. ** You've got to be kidding. It has two settings and is way better then the WP-360 and about the same pressure as the Panasonic model. Are you sure you have it charged up? ** -----> The water stream is very powerful. A lot of people might find they need to stick to the gentle setting. You couldn't possibly need more pressure. ---------------------------------------------- So again, I highly recommend this product, but it is not as perfect as the front page review might have you believe. Some of the negative reviews do have valid points, but I am not so picky. It works well and is invaluable, as far as I'm concerned, because healthy gums mean a healthier body, and this certainly makes your gums healthier than flossing alone (I don't use this as a floss replacement -- I use this before I floss, and I find that it makes flossing much easier and rarely does anything come out on the floss).

Nice, Once You Get The Hang Of It...
I have used this waterpik for about a month now. Since I have not used a waterpik before, I had a bit of a learning curve to make it most effective, and keep water off the bathroom ceiling. I have the following observations: -It's going to be a bit messy. Get over it. It is worth the effort. -You will have about 30 seconds before the unit runs dry, but it refills very easily. This is the disadvantage of a smaller, portable unit that is easy to travel with. But if you do it right, 30 seconds is enough. -If you pik after you brush, you can see 'bits' of what was left over in your mouth, that brushing didn't get. Then you realize why you are using one of these in the first place. -Since cold water is painful, use warm water. Or, I just fill it when I'm done with it, and it will be room temp for the next time I use it. -This unit takes up very little counter space, or goes in a drawer nicely, as compared to the larger units. I like this, since counter space is a premium. Downside is that you have to recharge it, but after daily use for a month, it is still on its first charge. Best of both worlds. -Unit feels like quality, and performs well. -Different tips are provided, but I've only used the basic one for now. UPDATE: It has been almost a year with this unit, and I have had one problem. The unit wouldn't re-charge, and I discovered that the brass contacts where the cord plugs in, had developed a layer of corrosion. A sharp knife, and a few scrapes later, it was back in shape. Otherwise, it is working well, and my dentist is happy. UPDATE: It has been a little over a year, and the charging cord has failed. Therefore, the unit is kaput. However, I kept my box, and it says it has a 2-year warranty, so we'll see how Water Pic handles the return. I notice the new units in the stores have only a 1-year warranty. The cord is an ongoing concern, and I wish they would fix it.

Holy Waterpiks! This thing is great!
Well, I sure don't get the bad reviews of this great dental hygiene booster. Maybe some have had quality control issues? My case has been a very, very happy one, although I'm just a few days into it...but I WILL update if disappointment comes. I bought this portable job after researching the counter top edition and seeing that this one performs the same task, with the same assurances of better oral health, but doesn't take up counter space (of which I have none) and is just a lot less to fuss with in terms of cleaning, worrying about hose length, and generally just being a lot more bulk to deal with. It's the first Waterpik I've ever tried, and I got it because I'm lazy with flossing and I shouldn't be, so I was looking for a better, quicker way to accomplish some good oral hygiene -- basically a cheat for being a lousy flosser.... Out of the box, it looks and feels like the kind of thing a dentist would use -- solid, well-built, easy to operate, and came with everything needed. It does require an initial 24 hour charge. But, impressive to look at, so that seemed a good sign. All the parts clicked and fit perfectly, and it comes with four "nozzles" or attachments, just like advertised in the photos. I'm only a few days into using it, so, as a say, I'll update if things go sideways, but, my first experience is that I really love it! I did watch some vids on YT to get a sense of how to use it, and it's easy once you get the hang of it. Just put it in your mouth, place it where you want to start cleaning -- close your mouth somewhat to keep in the spray (very important ahaha, as I found out when I forgot to do that), then hit the "on" button, and it does the job, shooting a firm stream of water. As the instructions say, just move along the gum line at a 90 degree kind of angle, and yes indeed, it does a GREAT job! I found that, because the on/off switch is right in my hand, it's easy to do a section at a time, turning it off in between (excuse the gross out) to, ahem, spit. I can do it in four neat sections, stopping to rid the accumulated water, a section at a time. The instructions say to just let the water run out of your mouth, but that is a bit more messy, and I wasn't a fan. It does work QUICKLY so it's not like my electric toothbrush where you have time to kind of focus on each tooth, since this one has a limited reservoir, and it runs out pretty fast, plus your mouth fills up with water might fast too. And, that actually makes it a fast job -- as they say in the instructions, about a minute and a half and you're done, working top and bottom, and I did both the "outer" side and "inner" side of my teeth, if that makes sense.... My mouth was definitely super clean. I opted for warm water and then poured some mouthwash in there -- worked terrific and my mouth felt like I'd just come from the hygienist. NO mouth pain at all, but then again I'm doing as they suggest, starting at low, then eventually going to the high setting. So, yup, a happy camper here! It's quick, painless, effective and adds just a few minutes to the oral health routine, for (according to all the research I could find on it) the huge benefit of far superior oral hygiene, for us lazy flossers out there. I highly recommend!!!

Works exactly as advertised
Used one of the original plug-in-the-wall Pik units back in the '60s as a kid. Considered it a chore. 50 years later, with gingival issues, I didn't realize then how important it was. The PLUS is a great product. Battery good for about 2 weeks of use (once with regular tip, once with pocket-pic, daily,) and a large enough water reservoir. You can safely ignore the poor guy who complained about the tip "spinning around" because he was too ignorant or stupid to actually insert the tip into the unit properly. I recommend it to everyone. Gingivitis (which affects almost everyone, eventually) can lead to increasing pocket depths, which contributes to bone loss, which, if bad enough, will lead to tooth loss. Those scary pamphlets in your dentist's office have a valid point. Not a good road to go down, unless you admire the toothless hillbilly look. There have been many published dental studies (I read about 40 of them on-line in the Journal of Periodontology) that confirm the efficacy of disruption of bacteria whether physically or chemically (by, say, chlorhexidine,) and the PLUS (and Pocket-Pik tip) are good tools in that ongoing war. Cheap at twice the price, but don't use it to remove ear wax (one study details how you'll rupture your eardrum.) Update: After about a month of use, it seems to be consistently good for about 2 dozen or so uses between charges. Speaking of charging, someone commented about corrosion on the charging contact pins. It's true -- I noticed minor corrosion almost immediately. It would have been better if Water-Pik had provided some sort of plug/barrier to keep water out of the plug-in cavity, or, better yet if they had used an induction-charge system with no contact points or pins as do many electric toothbrushes and other devices (either would make the product slightly more expensive, the later more so, but it would be well worth the extra dollar or three.) But, unfortunately, they didn't. Nonetheless, the corrosion problem is easily solved without buying any Radio Shack parts. Carefully scrape any minor corrosion off of the pins with the tip of a knife and use an inch of tape (anything that's about 1/2" wide) over the plug-in cavity to keep water out of the plug-in cavity while in use between charges. Hopefully, they read this stuff and will either add some sort of (attached to the unit) plug or go to an induction-type re-charge method on the next version of the PLUS, if they haven't already concluded that one or the other is a good idea. In any case, I still HIGHLY recommend the PLUS. It gets all sorts of stuff out of your mouth that brushing and flossing can't and don't.

Update - disappointed
When my original WaterPik died I decided I wanted something that wouldn't take up so much space on my counter that the full sized unit did. After reviewing options I decided to get this WaterPik cordless model which has a much smaller footprint. After charging the unit for 24 hours, I filled up the water vessel and started flossing. It does take some getting used to because if you aren't holding it correctly the water runs down your arm along with coming out your mouth. I felt it did a good job, I refilled it once to complete the flossing which took about 5 seconds so no complaints there. If you are looking for a unit that doesn't take up a lot of real estate on your counter this would be it. August 2014: This flosser no longer holds a charge, when first purchased I would charge it maybe every two weeks but now I am always charging it. Will probably resort to just keeping it plugged in. I like the unit but it cannot take the place of flossing (as the advertising wants you to believe) ... not at all per my dental hygenist. It works to get into all the spaces between teeth or if you've have some oral surgery and have "pockets" between your teeth this works well.

Shame On Water Pik
I have had the earlier 360 twice and of course the batteries died on both before the year was out. I have never made a claim, too much trouble and who has time. That's something Water-Pik is banking (literally) on. I said in a review on the 360 earlier I was going to be stupid and try this one but it would be the last chance for Water-Pik. So I did and in an age where battery problems like these do not have to be the case Water Pik puts sorry battery technology again in this unit. They know it and it is not an accident, but a complete rip off. The Ultra lasted less than 4 months used twice daily. Great unit for pressures and portability. Get over the small reservoir it is a portable and 3 seconds to refill, so get a life. That is why they are portable. I will NEVER own another Water Pik product. There is no excuse to market this junk. It is not as if they are unaware of the problem and therefore they are DISHONEST to be sure. My overdue update two and a half years later. In 2008 I purchased a Panasonic EW1270 without any reviews. It worked acceptably well but at half life of the alkaline AA batteries the power would began to fall off. After two years of using it I tried it with Sanyo Eneloop rechargable and would give it 6 Stars if I could. Almost no loss of power until the batteries are ready to quit. However the model Amazon is now carrying is the Panasonic Oral Irrigator EW-DJ10-A. It appears to be almost identical to my 1270 with a slightly different nozzel at the base. The very good reviews now available lead me to believe this is a newer model and with at least the same great performance of my 1270 unit.

So much better than a big tank unit.
I hate flossing. So any product that will step in for flossing part of the time is a great thing. I do floss the regular way AND Waterpik sometimes, and that is super clean. On the hurry day and I just feel like doing just one of them, Waterpik is a more pleasant experience. This is a big change because I used to have a Waterpik brand corded large-tank-style unit and it was worse experience than flossing. It was huge, loud, a hassle to fill, had a short tube that could accidentally get yanked, and took one of my few outlets in the bathroom. I am comparing this new Cordless PLUS unit to the old one, not against other cordless units. Noise - This unit is much quieter, but any water pump will make some noise. Reservoir - The size of reservoir is perfect for me. Just enough water to do the job. If I need more for a really good job, it takes a couple seconds to refill. The reservoir is SMALL enough to easily be held, emptied back out, and to fit under the faucet in a small sink. Tips - It came with extra tips with different names and shapes, but I just use the classic one. It seems sturdy, but can be rotated one notch at a time. Ergonomics - Perfect. I don't know what more to ask for, but it is handheld, light and mobile. Battery - Lasts longer than other electric toys of that power (like electric razors) and has kept charge so far. The fact that it has a battery at all means I can charge it overnight in another room with an outlet then use it in the bathroom for days. The thing comes with clear instructions to charge it like 24 hours before first use, and to NOT run it all the way down. Follow that and it will work great. Price - considering the expensive battery, I see no problem here. Similar price to other electric units. Water power - Ok, so this isn't going to take the paint off cars, but it does clean teeth. I use it on high, and if that won't clean your teeth I recommend floss. My review is based on only 2 weeks of use, and experience with only tank-style units in the past. Having said that, this unit exceeded every expectation, and this style of flosser (cordless) is much better for me. Is it more effective than flossing? No, but it goes well with flossing or is a good stand-in.

Fantastic - wish I'd had one years ago.
After recently undergoing extensive dental work in Vietnam I took my dentist's advice and bought one of these Waterpik devices. I have now been using it for a couple of weeks and am delighted to say I have noticed a huge difference. There is a knack to using these things, and after my first attempt during which I showered myself and the bathroom, I watched a couple of short How-to Videos on YouTube.. They suggest pursing the lips around the jet, and releasing the water every few seconds; this is where I went wrong the first time. It really is easy once you know how. Start on the lower setting (there are only two on this model), and once you get used to it, raise the pressure. I use tepid water, as I have sensitive teeth; also, turning the jet (which rotates 360 degrees) towards the back of the reservoir makes it easier to access the front and back of the teeth. I usually brush my teeth before using the Waterpik, and am astonished at how much food debris is removed after using it. The whole thing takes ten minutes at most which is no time at all to devote to good oral hygiene; I wish I'd had one of these years ago. I've used it twice a day, every day for just over a week and haven't had to charge it. I specifically chose the cordless model so I can take it with me wherever I go. For me it's been worth every penny, especially if you break down the cost per day. Update 18th August I've now been using this twice a day for six months, and whilst it does the job I've noticed the battery is not holding its charge for as long as it did. I've been charging it once a week for the past couple of months, but this past week or so there is a definite loss of power after just two or three days. This is disappointing so I am going to contact Waterpik to see what they suggest. Update 19th August Yesterday I had a live chat with Amazon and was immediately offered a replacement which arrived today! Excellent service.

Great product!
Advised by my Dr. to use this gadget which is suppoto be better than dental floss. Purchased this! Great quality & works well. Easy to use, not easy to wash & dry. Wish there was a better way to dislodge, wash & fully dry the water container !
