Just another great product for Cold Steel

I received my order November 2024, Shiped in large long box with no packaging axe tip had punctured box several times, thankfully no damage. Handle has a curve and not hard wood and a bit too narrow at the end if you have bigger hands. Will replace after time with a Hickory handle. The spontoon edges are dull as a butter knife. You will need a several belt grades (100-1200) to get anything close to an edge, but it will not last after you stick it in a wooden target. It is easy to throw, sticks deep and takes some effort to pull out. If you work it properly (Don't Overheat the Tip), it will Slam Deep into your target and maintain it's tip without rolling. Out of the box it will only bounce off of a soccer ball.

The shape of the head makes it easier to stick than traditional axe heads. I sanded the top of the handle and re-attached the head to make it fit better. Fun to throw.

Overall worthy, but not so great for the price. Drop forging, especially something like this certainly has its virtues, but this was not nearly as crisp as other Cold Steel products I have received. Loose, ill-fitting handle, sloppy clean up on the head, however, even all loosey goosey it could certainly kill. Just replace the handle in my case and it is an absolute winner.

If you're not ready to do a little work to keep the head and handle secure you're not ready to own any hatchet nor axe of this style. This is a tough beast of a spontoon. Has gone through so much steel. Pokes it like butter and the diamond shape helps it come back out after.

Received the Spontoon not the Diamond Spontoon hawk. Also no original box, just bubble wrapped and thrown into a large box. That said the craftsmanship is better than what I expected. Head shape is symmetrical and the wood handle is actually pretty nice and fairly slim, allows for a firm grip. A little gap in the socket/handle fit but that was expected. Wouldn’t need much work to better fit the head, add some file work on the edges and this would be a nasty slicer too. Sucks I got the wrong one but I’m probably going to get the Diamond as well anyway, just from another vendor. So heads up you may get either version if you order from here. ***Update*** I returned it after all, really wanted the Diamond Spontoon. Vendor shipped a replacement for this one and the Diamond version looks great and handles a little better as well. 2/10/23 I thought the above was a fluke so gave the vendor another chance and ordered the Diamond spontoon tomahawk again but this time I received the Hudson Bay version. I’ll take it as a sign to just order from Midway USA going forward.

Bad machining. Bad fit. The handle rattles because the tomohawk isn't properly seated. The handle is a to small and feels pretty crappy in the hand. The black paint is complete trash and flakes and spots off.
