Buy the old stuff. It's better.
The only Kilz that really works like you want it to is the original original. Oil based in the red can. All of the "improved" versions fail to block stains and tannins like the original.

Did the job
We had some really stubborn oily stains on a wall near the kitchen island (can't get anyone to admit to how they got there...). The water-based KILZ didn't work and it took three coats of this version, but the stains finally didn't come through the top coat. I'm happy with the outcome.

Worked great
We moved into a home where the previous owners allowed their pets to urinate on the carpets, which seeped into the wood. We applied this easily to the saturated spots and instantly noticed the urine smell disappearing. We have had new carpets down for a few weeks in direct sunlight with no notice of the smell. Worked like a charm!

It covered a water stain on a popcorn ceiling from an uptairs toilet line leak. Works great. And almost zero smell if any.
