This is an unpaid rave. I paid for it, did not get it for free and have nothing to gain by this rave review except to offer it as a public service. This is probably my favorite Amazon purchase ever! I purchased it a couple of years ago at the suggestion of a naturalist who overseas a huge local park. I have been using this quite a bit for a few years now and although it's definitely more worn than it was originally, it remains very sharp and extremely effective. It has changed my gardening game. I use it instead of a shovel when I plant trees because it's better at cutting through underground layers of almost everything better than anything else. It can get rid of small old tree roots, but not large ones. I use it to plant flowers and to get rid of deep weeds because it's much better than any hoe or weeder I have ever purchased. Every time I'm done using it, I rinse it off and then use sanitizing wipes to thoroughly clean it and let it air dry before I put it away and this seems to keep it sharp, clean and as effective as the first day I bought it. I have recommended it too many people in my life who have purchased it since then and every single one of them tells me that they have had an equally positive experience. I wish I had known about this item before I bought my last well-reviewed but ultimately useless shovel because although this is a teeny fraction of the shovel's size, it is infinitely more effective and useful.

Great sturdy tool. I strongly recommend purchasing with sheath as it makes carrying it around the yard much easier.

Brittle and Broken: after five uses, this great looking garden knife snapped. It was in the hole about halfway up the blade and I was pushing down on the handle when it snapped. It was then that I saw the width of the shaft that actually went into the handle. It looks impressive, but I was paying wasn’t paying up to $50 for the looks. I wanted a heavy duty tool for my garden, and not something that snapped like a plastic utensil. I asked for a refund and received a replacement, another plastic utensil.

I’ve wanted a hori hori for use in the garden but have not been able to find one with a comfortable grip for my smaller hands. This tool is perfect. I’ve been using it for a variety of garden chores and it feels balanced and comfortable in my hand. I like the sharp tip and long blade for digging up plants and bulbs and the saw on the side is handy for small cutting needs (it would take quite awhile to saw through a 1/2”). Its sturdy and I don’t worry about breaking or bending it. It’s fast becoming the first tool I reach for.
