I would recommend buying another version, though. This one has nice sketches and an introduction, although I am not sure either of them add to Aldo’s prose. The sketches and introduction were penned by other people and I think Sand County is better off without both. Especially the introduction; I am not sure how or why that was added. Those pages will be used to start a fire when I read this in Alaska. I will say the sketches are very pleasant, it is just a bit odd seeing as they were added later and again, are by someone else. Much prefer them to the introduction. This really is a lovely book I would encourage anyone to read when you are in the right place to appreciate it. Review: An excellent piece of literature - The title of the book is not a good indication of the excellent piece of literature this is. It reflects a simpler time and life, but its message is profound regarding our perception of nature and our impact on even a simple plot of land. The author’s (Aldo Leopold) sentence construction and vocabulary is outstanding. Even the introduction is excellent by Barbara Kingsolver. I have to admit I would not have purchased and read this book had it not been recommended by a professor at Texas A&M University.
