High-quality exceeded expectations
This is definitely worth the money. The quality of it is amazing. The functionality of it is also really good. I have never used one before, but this one is really easy to use in the accuracy of it is excellent. Definitely worth the money and would recommend to someone else who’s in a search of one.

Expensive, but rugged and well made.
Have not used in the field yet. This compass has no compensation so it is not for a land or water vehicle. Hinges are tight enough but not too tight. I had a small tripod with coated brass screws and aluminum legs so it does not have magnetic influence on the compass. User needs to be aware of nearby magnetic materials. Manual is very small font size. Inclinometer seems OK for degrees, using arrow point; but use right edge of vane to read grade percent. Star rate for gift suitability would depend on the recipient ability to understand the complex instructions, therefore 3 stars. I am a radio amateur (ham) and plan to use this compass to erect outdoor antennas. Perhaps also for hiking and boating. Cavers and climbers may find inclinometer useful.

Has the quality of a much more expensive compass
I bought this compass because I was unhappy with a cheaper compass I bought off of an auction site. I knew going too cheap would just give me a cheaply made product, but I didn't want to shell out over a hundred bucks for a mil-spec tritium compass. This compass is very well made (enough to satisfy this old Marine), sturdy and hefty casing is rugged and I'm confident it will withstand any disasters I might face with it. Back of compass has reference chart for angle, gradient, and distance. Compass floats nice and freely and doesn't stick, added level bubble on the compass helps get an accurate reading as you center it. Bezel ring glows in the dark, I like that the gradient inclination flap provides added protection for the compass face. Thumb loop is sturdy and it comes with a lanyard, soft case, and instruction booklet. Shipping was FAST. This is a good product for the price and with it, I see no need for the pricier models. I recommend.

Military grade compass gift for a young cub scout
We bought this military grade compass for our six year old grandchild who is a very outdoor kind of guy. He'll get a lot of opportunity in the Colorado mountains to practice finding targets with the help of his father that just happens to be a Major in the U.S. Army. This compass is heavy metal that will last a long time. The magnetic dial actually floats in a liquid and rotates quickly to the "North" position. It has a magnifier lens on it that enlarges the smaller numbers around the dial. After his father shows him a few tricks, he'll be using it easily. We wanted to gift him something that he'll be proud of for a long time. His dad agreed it was a good value for the money, too.

Great compass
It is a very good compass for hiking, camping, and when your in a new location and your GPS is telling you to turn North, East, South, or West, and you don't have a clue. (What's wrong with, Turn Left, Right, or just keep Straight).

Sighting eyepiece not accurate
This is a solid compass and in most ways I'm impressed. However, when lining up the sight line and the reading through the eyepiece they do not line up. I tried to file the plastic to fix, but it won't work. The compass is glued (rather well) to the bottom plastic plate. The issue is it's not glued to line up with the sighting lines. I will use it as a regular lensatic compass and take the reading from the eyepiece with a grain of salt. Also I took off the inclinometer.
