No indication before that battery strength was fading. Don't know how long this alarm would have sounded for but changed batteries and after first few seconds it silenced. That was the first time after 6 months of purchase I ever heard any audible alarm sounding. **Q: How long does it take to work ?** A: Thank you for your query. The repeller by itself could take up to 28 days to start working to its full effect (this is because rodents can be stubborn to get rid of if they have already nested in your home, as that’s where their ‘scent’ is, and it might take a for them to fully leave, but they will realise and associate that your home is now a discomfort to them, and they will move out. Please ensure you are using no bait as well, and that there is no obvious food source available for them, as this will entice the rodents back in. I have 2 (a friend gave me one) but we still get mice-have trapped 5 in last 24 hours! **Q: Why can I hear it when it’s plugged in?** A: Because it's not very good. Mine was fine at first and I could only hear it when I pressed the test button. After around 2 weeks, I could hear a high-pitched sound from the repeller constantly. A hungry rodent will put up with the discomfort if it can smell food waste. if it can't smell food it will stay well away. Empty waste bins every day. it says on the packaging to allow up to 28 days for a full deterrent effect to occur. This device definitely gets my vote. Incidentally, the delivery was poor. The driver knocked briefly on our front door. He did not wait for us to answer. He left the package on the ground adjacent to the front door. By the time we opened the door he had gone. This was less than 2 minutes from knocking.
