Born in Warsaw, Poland, on November 7, 1867, Marie Curie was forbidden to attend the male-only University of Warsaw, so she enrolled at the Sorbonne in Paris to study physics and mathematics. There she met a professor named Pierre Curie, and the two soon married, forming one of the most famous scientific partnerships in history. Together they discovered two elements and won a Nobel Prize in 1903. (Later Marie won another Nobel award for chemistry in 1911.) She died in Savoy, France, on July 4, 1934, a victim of many years of exposure to toxic radiation. Review: Great Book - I can't say enough about these "who was" books. My granddaughter (age 7) loves reading them and learning about great historical figures. I have never seen her so interested in reading! Yes, these books do tell the truth about a subject and the time frame in which they lived. This can be objectionable and/or disheartening to some but these are facts, rather one agrees with them or not! The reality of life is people can achieve greatness! They can also fail on their journey. They can also overcome their mistakes. We have read 3 of these "who was" books so far and I think all of these books inspire young people and open the door for additional discussion between the young reader and an adult. I will be buying more "who was" books. Review: These are great books. All of the Who Was books are ... - These are great books. All of the Who Was books are excellent for young readers. My daughter gets very excited when she can teach us a little something about history and she seems to truly find things interesting. I think this is a great read for grades 3 and 4

I donated these wonderful readers to the kids section of our local library. I am excited to know that children will learn about these historical people.

Nice book for an 8 year old
Love these books. My son, who is 9 has been reading them for a little over a year now and this book is wonderful. I must say that this one is not one of his favorites. He is a history junkey, lol. He so far seems to love the Jackie Robinson, Teddy Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, Robert E Lee, What is the world series the best as a 8 and 9 year old. I also read these to him in the evenings and I really enjoy them as a 40 year old father. I have learned so much from them as well. Sometimes I read them before or after my son in order to have an educated discussion with him about the subject of the book. I really also get alot out of them as well.

Great Intro to Kids Bibliographies
Reading this book for a college education course, easy read, good explanations, and relatively short and concise. I think I’m going to get a bunch of The Who Was? books for my classroom.

Great series
My third grade daughter asked for this for Christmas. She read it quickly and loved it! A month later and I’m still getting random Marie Curie factoids once in a while! Great series!

Excelente colección
Excelente colección de libros que recomiendo a todo el mundo que tenga niñas y/o niños y que además de practicar el inglés quieran aprender sobre grandes personajes de la historia.

Great purchase
My 7 year old daughter loved this book. It was her first big girl book.:) She even dressed up as Marie Curie for world book day at school. We are now planning a trip to the museum in Paris to see her work. You can tell it really made an impression on my daughter.
