The zip feature is great at least for a smaller calf person. If you have meaty calves this may not be ideal. I have a little trouble keeping it zipped all the way up but they never come fully unzipped. Great in the mud, water, etc. Standing up to snow and ice as well. Toes stay quite warm with wool socks. Tougher than anything I’ve ever worn. Not the most comfortable because they are very stiff, but they protect my feet really well. The zipper is a little hard to use, but it works well enough to not have to untie them when removing or putting on. The actual boot is very big on the outside, but fit normal. I usually get 6 months from a pair of Keen hiking boots for work, expecting to get much more from these. Heavy duty protection.
