I consider myself a self-certified home automation guru and obsessive. I've been involved in home automation for almost 20 years and this product (and technology) has solved a problem that no other tech does. For background, my current home features an all-Mac friendly, homekit enabled home automation system, all voice controlled via Siri. Everything from garage doors, door locks, HVAC, gate sensors, motion alarms, security cameras, alarm system tie-ins and every light in the house is controlled via one app. This has required tying together a wide variety of home automation devices from virtually every company: Insteon, Apple, Eve, Aqara, Hue, Nanoleaf, Govee, Apple, Switchbot and many more. The system integrates a wide range of HA networking technologies from Homekit, Thread, Matter, Insteon, Zigbee to name a few. And I have several proprietary hubs operating, all integrated via HomeBridge and Indigo. The biggest challenge for a large house on a rural property is that most hubs do not reach very far so there are intermittent issues with some devices. Since we're an Apple household, we have HomePods all over which helps with the (Apple) HomeKit-native devices as long as they're inside the house and within 30 feet of a HomePod. But with some of the technologies, you need a special hub, which is not great, but work well if the device is within 30 feet of the hub. I've had to buy multiple hubs for some technologies, which, really, is criminal. Their ranges are very limiting. And devices drop off the network especially in further reaches of the home. Placing any sort of sensors or devices outdoors has been mostly pointless. We have cement board siding for wildfire protection and they block a lot of the signals. YoLink has changed all of this. YoLink has the longest range and power of any technology I've ever used. I have a gate with a sensor that is down a driveway that is at least 400 feet from the hub. It works flawlessly every time. The smart door sensors I'm reviewing have been placed around my property in places that previously were unreachable and they work flawlessly. I've also added YoLink motion sensors to the driveway which previously required an elaborate and almost unusable setup using outdated Dakota sensors and relays. Now I can trigger different automations if someone drives up the driveway, opens gates, etc. YoLink seems to be the solution to the problem I've had with range. If I could replace my hundreds of devices with YoLink devices, I would. Highly recommend for any home automation enthusiast and even if you're not an obsessive like me, it is easy to set up and easy to integrate into your Home app on your iPhone. Highly recommend. The battery life seems to be better than other devices, but will report back once I've had them for over a year.

I got this for my mailbox opening detection. I tried some indoor contact sensors but they do not have long range and I tried ring mailbox sensor (RMS). But I found out the RMS does not work well when I placed it in the back of the inside of the mailbox. I found out RMS is human heat based instead of detection of any object movement. With Yolink, I placed it inside a metal mail box and it works every time. Initially, the only problem I have is the sensor falling. I placed the sensor on a stationary side of the mailbox and the magnet on the back of the opening door. Maybe the door with the magnet hit the sensor. So I put some strong two sided tape on the sensor and placed it a bit further from the magnet (but need to be within 0.4 inch gap as specified). And I put one side of velcro tape to the small contact between two metal plates of the mail box so when the door is closed, the door will not slam each other and create vibration to dislodge the contact sensor. If it falls again, I will replace the two sided tape with velcro tape so I can remove it easily for battery change in the future. So far it works really well without falling. It works with Amazon Alexia well and it will pronounce "You've got mail". That is pretty cool. The software is pretty encompassing. It looked like yolink spent a lot of time on the software. After you get used to it, it is pretty powerful. I put another one as refrigerator door opening sensor. Each sensor can have its own alerting scheme if you wish. Both notify on my iPhone (you can select if the notification can appear in locked screen (critical alert) or just a banner on top of the phone or on apple watch. And it also alerts on Alexia, if you wish, "The refrigerator door is opened". And if it stay opened for a specified time, you can have the notification again repeatedly on the iPhone. It is pretty useful since the range from the sensor to the hub is very long so it works consistently. I like this purchase - easy installation, works well within metal, long range for consistency, comprehensive software, work with Alexia. I wish it works with Apple HomeKit but it seems like not for now.

We have tested various devices for a few weeks. I have to say that we are very pleased. The first thing we noticed when unpackaging was that everything seem to be designed and made with attention to detail and care. That was a little surprising for us. Many times you get cheap packaging and apps that look like they were created in a single afternoon. Not so in this case. We had to double check to verify that this is a start up company. By all outward indications, it feels like it’s a well polished company that has been in business for quite some time. All manuals and set up information is available online. Do not expect much in the box. We had a little difficulty finding the information we needed at first but we were grateful, and still are, for the fast response from the company. Since we mentioned the company, we have to note that any kind of support request is answered promptly, even at odd hours of the night. That was surprising. But they have always been friendly and helpful, even when we should have checked product documentation first. The initial set up was a little challenging with Wi-Fi. But that is not due to product limitations. It is due to limitations on the wireless routers we used. The wireless routers we used did not allow us to separate the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. This system uses the 2.4 GHz network, which is needed in order to have the range. In the end, which simply hooked up the network hub to the router using the provided ethernet cable. Everything has been pretty much smooth sailing. Again. The system requires a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. If you have trouble getting it to connect wirelessly, the issue is almost certainly your wireless router failing to separate the two networks or failing to allow the device onto the 2.4 GHz only. It’s not a product limitation or defect. Our recommendation is just to hook it up with the ethernet cable since the range is very long, anyway. Before using the system, we recommend updating the firmware on all devices manually. Depending upon how long it has been sitting in the Amazon warehouse, you may have an older version of firmware and might experience a few bugs. That was our case. We had a few problems with erroneous notifications that were rectified as soon as the firmware updated. The update, you find the firmware version in the device and tap it. The firmware does update automatically. But if it’s your first time setting up, it’s good to manually update the devices. We would love to see a way in the app to review the firmware status of all devices on one screen and manually trigger a firmware update for all devices from that same screen with a single click. But this is merely a want, not a flaw. Do not forget to edit the alarm strategy before you start using the system. It appears to default in the app to multiple strategies, which can mean getting an app notification, an email notification, and or text message notification each time something is opened or motion is detected. That might be something to look into on the app development side as far as prompting you during set up to choose your desired preferences. We have had no difficulties with the devices maintaining contact with the network hub. The network hub has reported itself going offline once or twice overnight, but this appears to be momentary and related to a firmware update automatically applying and automatically rebooting the device. Battery life so far appears to be really good. We are surprised by the quality of the 3M self adhesive tape on each one. There is no alcohol wipes provided, but we used simple rubbing alcohol and a cloth to clean the surfaces prior to sticking the devices on. You can do similar or just make sure that it’s really clean. As a test, we applied some of the devices to a surface that was not prepared/cleaned ahead of time. those devices have no problem sticking to the surface and have not fallen down. They appear to be well secured when we try to tug on them. We would love to see the adhesive strips offered as a replacement item for purchase. We can see down the road people moving devices around, say if they’ve changed their minds about location or if they move. We had also thought about having an extra mount for the motion sensor so we could move the motion sensor between different locations at different times. This was because we were only able to buy a limited quantity due to inventory at that time. But that is something that others might be interested in purchasing at a later date. The motion sensors have been updated to include sensitivity adjustment. They can be pretty sensitive, detecting slight movement even in the dark. We have no complaints. The range and spread appear to be great. The door/window sensor performs equally well. it can be mounted in virtually any orientation and still function so long as the sensor portion of each piece is within about 1/2 of an inch to the other. so you could even mount one of them at a 90° angle to the other. So long as they are within that distance to each other, they still function perfectly. We found this to be necessary with one door where we had a proper clearance on the door but did not have proper clearance on the frame. The products integrate seamlessly with IFTTT. We would love if the temperature/humidity sensor had the option to show more frequently than one hour on the history graph in the app. But the graph is clean, uncluttered and easy to read. We will soon be testing additional products. We are adding additional door sensors and motion sensors to the system, which will then have approximately 20 devices connected. We are also going to be testing for the first time the garage door motion sensor (ordered). We were originally going to test the motion sensor/ garage door opener combo, but none of the garage door openers we have available appear to be compatible. Afterwards, we will test additional devices on our “wish list.“ We have found zero indication of user data tracking, analytics tracking, or communication with ad servers on the app. It really does appear to be simply designed to do what it is supposed to do and nothing more. It’s refreshing. So to summarize, we can’t really find anything wrong. We have struggled to find anything to critique with the devices or the app. Everything works as intended and we are extremely pleased.

I appreciate these door sensors because they seamlessly integrate with a hub and just work. For reference I have 16 as Door Sensors and 20 as Window Sensors as well as 1 I rigged for use on a baby gate for a total of 37 Door/Window Sensors Yolinks door sensors, like any technology, come with their own set of advantages and disadvantages. Here’s a breakdown: Pros: Security Enhancement: They provide an additional layer of security by alerting you when doors are opened or closed, deterring intruders or notifying you of potential threats. Affordability: Compared to systems like Vivint or ADT, which have highly priced devices, Yolinks sensors are more manageable, especially when purchased in multipacks. Convenience: They integrate with smart home systems, allowing remote monitoring via smartphone apps or other devices. You're not tied to a specific security system; cancellation doesn’t render the sensors unusable. Automation: Integration with smart home systems enables automation, such as triggering lights or cameras when a door sensor is activated. Ease of Installation: Designed for easy DIY installation, saving money on professional fees. Battery Operated: Long-lasting battery power ensures functionality even during power outages. Cons: Hub Speaker Limitations: While I appreciate they work with a hub, multiple hubs are needed for full-home coverage, especially for alerting open doors like those leading to a pool. It would be beneficial if notifications could be sent through Alexa directly without setting up routines, akin to how the LG Washtower notifies via Alexa. Initial Cost: There can be a significant upfront cost to purchase and set up a network of door sensors, especially for comprehensive coverage in large homes. Compatibility Challenges: Ensuring compatibility with existing smart home systems or security setups can be challenging, potentially requiring additional equipment or adapters. They may not integrate well with other alarm systems. Color: They only come in white. I ended up spray painting mine since all of my doors and windows are black.

Love the door sensors so far! Easy setup, reminders when the batteries are low, they are fast/responsive, and Alexa compatible. All good things. They are fairly small in size too so not intrusive on the eye when mounted. Works great for what is essentially a DIY home security system.

Yo Link is the second best home automation product in my home. The first is MyQ garage door. The App is great - super easy set up. Super easy maintenance. I have developed apps for professional use and this app is well made and planned. I have 20 devices going and flawless performance for over a year now. Great job to the team that created and moreover adding devices.

We've just installed our new Yolink system and these door sensors along with our othér Yolink devices are super easy to use! The 3M tape makes mounting really easy and it is super strong. We've not had any issues with them not staying where I've installed them. The sensors are very responsive to the doors and windows being opened and closed. They are very compatible with our siren, key fob and he app. They are loud enough to be heard but with them being connected to the app you can see which device is going off which is helpful in our case because we have a 2 story house. You're gonna love Yolink!!

Fast response, good range and good tolerance on the magnet position. I wanted 4 sensors which they do on the Yolink Website, but not Amazon. As a UK user the postage from the USA would have been expensive, so ended up buying 3 + 1.

Bought the hub unit and temperature sensor from Amazon.com as it was less that half the .co.uk price even with shipping. All worked perfectly so I thought I would add a door sensor. There wasn't much of a difference in rice from .com to .co.uk so I bought from the UK. After tearing my hair out trying to get them to work without success I reached out to yolk. They were very helpful and after a couple of days doing software upgrades and changes they worked out that European and US yowling devices are not compatible. While they were very helpful I do feel that this could easily have been avoided with a warning on the devices. Shame as the products are ver good but I am now stuck with a US device in Europe that I cannot add too.
