All that I have had before will allow you to use a piece of 1/2" water pipe to crank it up and down. On this one the holes are just a tiny bit too small and I have to use the tire iron from my pickup. Works fine but not as handy as the old ones. Also the very top piece (the part that contacts the load) wobbles around. I guess it is supposed to adapt to conditions. Never had one do that, but it's ok, just different.
