The best mobile phone ever
I got the One Plus 8 Pro to replace my 6 year old iPhone 6 Plus, and have to say I’ve been blown away by this. Being a staunch Apple fan with all their possible gadgets under the sun and having had an iPhone since 13 years, I have to say this phone in just amazing, in fact I’m lost for words to describe it. I have never had an Android phone and it took me sometime to get used to this platform but having used it for about 6 weeks now, I don’t think I’ll go back to an iPhone (I still have my iPhone 6 Plus which I haven’t even touched since I got this). I waited for the iPhone 12 to be released in October and was really disappointed with their specs and price. Yes, their laptops and tablets are way ahead of their competitors but when it comes to phones, they are way behind. I really took a gamble and after some research got the One Plus 8 Pro and undoubtedly this was the best decision and have to say honestly I was quite sceptical initially. I even got it for £745 from Amazon (£150 cheaper), the equivalent iPhone 12Pro costing £1200 (with a 6GB RAM and 60Hz refresh rate), which gives you 256GB of storage, 12GB of RAM and a 120Hz refresh rate. The processing/download speeds, QHD screen, graphics, text and image quality are out of the world (incredibly sharp and crisp with true to life colours - never seen in a smartphone before). Once I have the phone in my hand, I don’t ’t like to put it down. If you are used to the 120Hz refresh rate, which I’m with my iPad Pro, you will see a noticeable difference and wouldn’t want to go back. The screen size is perhaps one of the biggest in the premium phone category and its weight is hardly noticeable for its size. The quad camera is superb and so is the sound quality from the built-in speakers. The battery life is excellent and easily serves you all day on a single charge (unless of course you are watching a lot of video content). I have even got wireless charging stand/pad and this is really convenient. In fact I’m doing lot more on this than I was on my iPhone to the extent I have even stopped watching TV and watch everything on this. The face recognition is excellent but the fingerprint Sensor is a bit irritating and have to do it a few times before it recognises (sometimes doesn’t and have to enter the PIN), which is the “only” criticism I would have about this phone. I’m sure this be rectified in the One Plus 9 due to be released shortly. Overall, undoubtedly the best smartphone in all aspects and superb value for money (my honest and humble opinion). Apple - wake up, you’re a long way behind the competition to catch up. Strongly and unreservedly recommend this phone to whoever is looking to replace. You won’t regret.

Astounding upgrade from Oneplus 6
The (Amazon) purchase experience wasn't perfect, and the Covid pandemic means that third party cases are thinner on the ground than I'd hope, but this is a review of the phone itself. In effect, this phone is the highest spec computer I have ever bought myself, and while I did baulk at the price, I have had three one plus phones in the past five years, only one of which is not (due to an insurance write off, they kept the smashed handset) still in daily use by somebody, so I am confident it will last. Speed I bought this after using the oneplus 6 daily for two years, and the speed of the 8 Pro is staggering as an upgrade on a phone that to be honest I never thought of as being slow - I only bought this now because 5g is rolling out in Dundee and any speed complaints I had with the OP6 were network related - the old phone does, however, feel much less slick now that I have used the new one. I'm expecting to use this phone heavily for three years, and thereafter it will be passed on to a family member, so felt the top spec model was worth the investment - it should be running things comfortably for years. Display My previous oneplus 6 had what I thought of as an exceptionally good screen, but the 90/120hz refresh rate on the 8 Pro and the higher resolution make it seem so rough in comparison - games and videos have a slickness that makes them seem so much more real, and the hit on battery life has been much less than I feared. Camera The camera has been excellent so far, although I am not one to poke about in the settings for that, so I'm just saying that the out the box settings are excellent - it can, I am sure do much more than I could ever ask of it in that regard. Battery and charging Charging speed on my previous Oneplus 6 was incredibly fast anyway, and the battery life still excellent two years on. This phone charges even faster, and even with the highest battery drain screen resolution and refresh (using automatic brightness level), playing about with my new phone even more than I normally would, I'm getting 6 hours plus before having to top up the charge. Replacement/spare warp 30 chargers for the newer generation of phones are hugely expensive, but time phone still takes an almost as fast charge from the older generation of oneplus dash chargers, so I will wait till I leave another of them on a train before buying an extra warp charger or the wireless charging Dock! Software I love the less-is-more approach tha oneplus take to their phone software - you can add on any bells and whistles you desire from the play store, but out the box you have a clean, light, fast version of android that runs so smoothly you will wonder why the competition do things any other way. Grumbles There are a couple of wee niggles, not enough to knock a star off, but worth noting. I would have appreciated the option of a flat glass screen with the top end specs rather than the curved edges - I'm not having problems with touches at the edge where I'm holding it at all, but I don't find the curved edges to add anything functionally and they make getting a good glass screen protector harder. I knowingly bought a phone with a curved screen because I wanted all the specs otherwise, so I refuse to mark it down in a purchase review unless it causes actual problems - just for those that would likewise rather not have the curved screen, be aware that it will take more than 4 days of use to forget that it is there! On a related note, in my case I had to apply my own film screen protector to the phone on unboxing - there were two in my box, but it is a pest to get all the bubbles out, so I dread the day I have to replace the one I have put on now! Previous OP phones have all had them pre-applied, and it may be that mine was omitted by accident, but as Covid is delaying third party options the protection available as standard becomes even more important. Again following on, the included silicone case is OK, and has weathered a couple of waist height drops already but I prefer something tougher feeling and less prone to bending away from the phone to let stuff in - clear silicone lets everyone see the lovely colour of your phone, but also, after just 4 days, lets everyone see just how much fluff there is in your pocket! Overall, this is an amazing phone, at a price markedly lower than its direct competition. There are reports of some display issues using the screen at hi res/refresh but low brightness setting - I haven't experienced them, and apparently a software fix is coming for those that have. If you have saved up the pennies and can tolerate curved screens, this is an astounding piece of kit.

A regular person's review
I like my toys, but I'm by no means a tech expert / audiophile or anything of the kind. But I can still appreciate a good product. This phone is easily the best phone I've owned (coming from Samsungs galaxy S series). Fingerprint reader is snappy and reliable, screen is gorgeous and speakers are great! I'm sure you've seen many reviewers saying the cameras are much improved etc etc. But I'd still say it's the phones weakest point. They are by no means bad but even compared to my old s8, they're nothing special. Plus the camera app seems to lag slightly when looking round in photo mode, which is unusual for this speedy phone! Talking of speed, the phone chews up everything. Games, videos, charging - lighting quick. Chrome app has occasional freezes which I've seen numerous oneplus owners complain about but it's infrequent and not a deal breaker. Games look stunning on the screen, everything looks stunning on this screen! Running at 120hz 1080p is easily crisp enough, but 1440p is a nice option should you need it. I've had no stutter or lag on any game as of yet, and even loading times are stellar. And the battery holds out well, getting me through every day effortlessly. Sometimes 2 with light usage. For a "flagship" phone in 2020, I think it comes with every feature you could expect, with no major USP... But it still undercuts the competition on pricing (bought mine on sale for £699). The design is a prime example, it's gorgeous but the same as almost every other flagship out there.. However if we still have to have a hole punch camera, oneplus got it right with the best location on the screen. Overall, if you're after a great phone to rival the very best out there, you won't go wrong here. Would 100% recommend it. ********UPDATE********* Chrome lagging and view in camera app no longer lag!

Slick design, a premium device at a reasonable price
Saw the specs on this phone and couldn't resist. I've had the Huawei Mate 10 Pro since it launched and going from that (which at the time felt like I'd reached the top of the mountain) For my first OnePlus device, feels like I've reached the clouds. The 120Hz and 60FPS makes streaming crystal clear. I'm choosing to watch movies here rather than on my 4KTV or high-end PC. The sound is profound, I've shown my friends videos from over 2 metres away while outside and they could hear everything very clearly. Full Volume can be a bit bumpy though (but I doubt you'll need it). The battery will absolutely last you all day (usually), but during lockdown I've been charging more than I care to admit. No matter! Warp Charge has my phone back to full in (I think) 45 mins and with Wireless Charging I doubt I'll ever find myself stuck somewhere without battery for long. The back-end camera is amazing for photography. Green and blues are vibrant and visually appealing. The front-end camera does occasionally have some fuzz when it comes to selfies and other objects. Recording video at 4K 60FPS is great (if you use a tripod), unfortunately too much movement can make it stutter. The phone has a specific mode for gaming, while I stick to console - the games I have tested (contest of champions, Pokemon Go, Yu-Gi-Oh) all look better and run faster than ever before. I have seen many OnePlus fans complain about the price, but it in many ways excels the S20 Ultra 5G and the Iphone 11 Max. Both of those devices are reaching the quad-digits, while this has the same performance at a much more reasonable price. It's been a month and with every Oxygen OS update it seems to get better. With enough customisation to make this device truly my own.

Good battery, very fast performance, mediocre camera. Excellent smartphone, overall.
After using Samsung Galaxy S for over 10 years, including S21 Ultra, and Samsung recently back tracking on what they mocked others for and doing it themselves, I decided to make a change, and I've said for a long time that if I ever did, it would be to OnePlus. I am happy with this phone, it is very fast, battery life is good and it feels great in-hand. However, the camera is "good" on daylight but poor in dark scenarios, coming from, and still using occasionally, an S21 Ultra probably has an impact on this, face recognition is the fastest I have ever experienced ( I have owned many, many smartphones, Galaxy S has just been my main, daily phone ) and fingerprint reader never misses. I've always said 30 watt charging is the sweet spot, not too fast to being degradation to the battery, but fast enough to charge your phone in a short period. The 12/256GB storage variant was a must so I only has the glacial green colour as an option, I don't mind it, but I'd of preferred the Ultra Marine Blue, anyway, I've wrapped it in a custom skin and a case from Spigen ( shown in image ) the phone was of cou6brand new and sealed and was delivered the next day, I have had no issue with it whatsoever. I was fortunate enough to get this at am all time low price for this storage variant, brand new, just 2 days after my purchase the price increased by £324 😯 so of course was very happy I caught it in time, if you see it brand new for £600 or below, in my opinion it is a bargain, even now. OnePlus have promised solid support for all 8 series and 9 series, as well as the Nord series going forward from Android 12 ( released in September 2021 ) so we shall se if that comes true. Either way, it is an outstanding phone and a majority of people will be very happy with it.

A Flagship Android Phone
The OnePlus 8 Pro is a true flagship smartphone, putting it up with the Samsung Galaxy S20 series. Even though it is cheaper than the S20+ and the S20 Ultra, don't think that it is inferior in quality: it is now at the same level. The display is bright and vivid, and you can feel the smoothness of the 120Hz refresh rate (I always leave it on). It also has the option of QHD+, which sharpens the display even further. Oxygen OS is also fantastic and adds loads of features which really allow you to customise your device. This includes accent colours, icons, hidden app space, and loads more. The battery life is good and usually lasts me a day and a half with moderate to high usage. But if you want to save battery you can easily drop down to 60Hz. Pros: Top Android flagship phone Amazing display Highly responsive and smooth when operating Good battery life More value for money than the S20 series phones Cons: Curved display can sometimes lead to accidental touches The most expensive OnePlus device (but you get what you pay for)

Thrilled with the mobile, few niggles
The phone came in a nice packaging and as usual for OnePlus includes a transparent case, screen protectors and a fast charger. Screen Protector: The screen protectors are just flimsy ones, not the stronger glass ones, so won’t help if you drop the phone but will help a little with scratches. Setup: Setting up the phone was quick, and it takes under an hour to charge from almost empty to 100% which is great. The four cameras on the back of the phone make it a little bulky, but I have got used to that already. Screen: The screen is beautiful, and while not everything will make use of the 120Hz refresh rate, things that do, make everything on-screen much smoother. The screen wraps around the side and covers the entire front of the phone, except for a cutout for the front facing camera. Camera: Quality for the camera’s are good, though it keeps defaulting back to 12mega pixels, instead of 48mega pixels, not worked out how to change that yet. OS: It is now possible to run the OS in dark mode, not sure if this a general Android option, or particular to this phone! Having said that my partners OnePlus 6T, which is running the same version doesn’t seem to have this option. Conclusion: Overall, I am thrilled with the phone, and would recommend it is the most powerful phone I have owned and can imagine using for at least the next three years.

Oneplus 8 not so pro!!!!! (Update.. But is now)
My opinion so far is not to good for this phone. It is fast and screen display is up there with the best, if not the best. There are lots of good things to say about it but my mind is clouded with the software issues presently.... There appear to be several fundamental software glitches which I am trying to sort out with Oneplus support one at a time. For a flagship price handset these are not good and as we speak I am considering a return as these are really fundamental things that should really work on a handset of this level. (Update 28-09-2020) After help from Oneplus support, (which was very quick & thorough) I can add that this phone is now working as it should. My few software issues, which for me were fundamentals to this level of handset, were addressed and now operate as they should. Its only fair that I now alter this review in line with this. Phone is amazingly fast. Screen display is brilliant. Stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos deliver great punchy clarity. Build quality is top draw and as per previous oneplus devices I have had the Android operating system is great. With the new Oxygen OS11 upgrade due out soon this will be an immense handset easily rivalling Samsung/Apple phones. Top buy at the price point.

A GREAT PHONE !!
I researched smartphones for months before purchasing this OnePlus 8 Pro. I have not been disappointed !! I have been an iPhone user for over 15 years and strongly considered staying with iPhone but I liked the greater flexibility that you have with the Android system. I also considered Samsung's offerings but was put off by their notorious bloatware and the high price of their devices. The OnePlus 8 Pro has given me everything I wanted at a reasonable price (for a top end phone). The display is beautiful and smooth. The audio output is incredible. The camera has far exceeded my expectations - taking some really stunning pictures in low light. I am very pleased and would recommend the phone to anyone looking for a high end phone that will last them for years.

Power charging adapter is not EU compatible.
I forced to use another charger or to buy UK-EU power adapter in order to enjoy WARP charge. :( But smartphone is good and fast enough. Battery lasts for ~2d with my average use.
