    They Do What They're Meant To Do...

...but be prepared to make a modification or two.  Peening the ends of the pins isn't an intuitive method of installation, and from a less-than-stellar peening job on my part, one of my pins immediately slid out of the oar lock and fell into the lake, so I'll never get it back.So forget the pins and do what I did: buy a small package of 10-24 x 2 1/2" machine screws with nuts; they cost about a dollar at Walmart.  Set your oar in the oar lock, then slide one of those machine screws through both tines of the oar lock, and then secure the screw with a nut and tighten it.  Done!  Now your oar's never popping out!You can come up with your own cotter pins to secure the oar locks in their mounting holes.  I used a couple of 1/8" Quick Links for mine; they're cheap too.

They seem to be durable.  The problem I had is that they did not come with instructions. I could not figure out how the pins stayed in place.  You have to HAMMER or peen the smaller end of the pin a little flat AFTER it is through the oar. Be careful though, don't pound it too hard or the pin will bend and if you miss you could damage the oarlock itself.  Good luck.
