They extend flush with the mounting surface. **Q: The total length of the desk I'm needing this for is 72" (or 6 feet). The drop leaf is only 24" (2 feet) of that. Would this fit my project?** A: I don’t know the answer. Just file it down to remove the arm. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Handy, but.... *by M***T on January 27, 2024* I guess it is a problem with the switch on one of the two lights in the set -- my preference would be to have them be "off" until I turn them "on", but there is also a "motion activated" setting. I have both of mine set to "off" but one of them flicks on by itself anyway. I've fiddled with it plenty but can't figure it out. Not a big deal, but it needs to be charged more often. Otherwise, they are pretty cool -- easy to install the magnetic strip under the kitchen cabinet, easy to use, provide a good amount of light.
