Might help, definitely doesn't hurt
Our 12-year-old boxer/mastiff mix is having some cognitive issues related to age, so our veterinarian recommended this food. He really likes the taste, and we think that it may be helping (along with some of the other supplements we're trying). Also seems to have resolved some of the gas issues that he was having previously, so that is a big plus. Definitely worth a try if your senior dog is having problems with dementia-type symptoms. Picture included doesn't really have anything to do with the food, just sharing our sweet old boy :)

I've noticed a difference.
My senior dog who is sundowning is more alert overall but not as anxious while on this food. I switched to a different food for a couple months and she went back to her typical dementia behaviors. Back on this food and shes better again. I really think it's doing something.

Expensive but worth it
I know there was a review that said this is price gouging, but Chewy charges the same amount. It could be cheaper, Purina charged stores less. Yes, I can buy a 50-60 lb. Bag, but that would last my little (and senior, 14yo dog) for at least 18 months. Would drop my price to $2.48 (I think it was), but I’d need a much bigger container and a lot more space. Not to mention the food would go bad. Anyway, my dog happily eats this, and at 14, has a delicate digestive track, so I’m not changing. This was the first one among 5-6 we tried that she either wouldn’t eat, or upset her stomach enough for her to throw it up. So, we stick with this. Took the bag to our vet, who really liked the nutrient list, too. Even when our pupper isn’t feeling well, she’ll eat this with some cooked chicken and pumpkin on it.Bottom line, our dog loves it, and it was a challenge to find one she liked.

Expensive
My 11 year old boxer was starting to experience mental decline, being awake at night, nighttime anxiety. We and the vet thought early dementia or sundowners. After 3 months we tried this food and on the second bag we noticed her burping a lot. Started giving her famotidine twice a day and all symptoms went away. Turns out she developed acid reflux from a round of carprofen in May.Long story short, the dog food was fine, very expensive but if your dog is showing signs of dementia or mental decline see if they have acid reflux first.

Less waste with our dog compared to other dog food products we’ve used.
I like the content of ingredients in this dog food and the fact that the total ingredients are geared to our eight year old dog, a Labrador, and there is no waste byproducts in the food or cheap fillers. Our previous dog was a very large Newfoundland and her manure waste was less than many of our friends dogs that were a hundred pounds, or more, lighter than her. She lived till she was over eight years old and her heart was struggling to pump because of fluid. It sounded like a washing machine sloshing through the soapy water. Many large dogs that work cattle like our Newfoundland did don’t live past 6 to 6.5 years. With our current 92 pound Labrador he is in perfect health at this time with no indication of breathing problems or muscle/joint problems. We are on a 7 week automatic refill program and being up in our 70’s we don’t have to go buy the food and haul it out of the store, into the Jeep, out of the Jeep, into the house. So one time moving this large bag is so much easier on my wore-out joints and the convenience of the auto-refill would be worth a lot more to me than it would be to a person that didn’t bale hay, haul feed, get up and down hundreds of times on the tractor in a typical day.

Great value dog food and highly recommended for older dogs.
Not too long ago my dog had a cyst in his mouth and the vet went ahead and removed all of his remaining teeth. Even being toothless and a smaller dog he gobbles this kibble down without issue. His stools are consistent with each poop being firm yet wet. He also licks himself less frequently (see picture of him on my lap) as he would lick himself compulsively to the point of developing red streaks his legs. This food contains probiotics, MTC's, and glucosamine all of which are important ingredients to have for older dogs. The probiotics help to strengthen their immune system and improve digestion and absorption of nutrients. The MTC's are a fatty-acid derived from vegetable oils that studies have shown to help cognitive function in older dogs. Glucosamine is a compound found in cartilage that can help dogs with hip and joint pain.I recommend you give it a try, especially if you have an older dog that seems to be declining cognitively. There's really no reason not to since it's affordable, highly rated, and widely available both here on Amazon and at pet stores.
