Very Comprehensive Book!
Years ago, I tried a large loom, and didn't get very far with it. It was too big and unwieldy. I did have an inkle loom and some other small looms, and used and liked them. So, recently, I found Ashford's SampleIt loom. The 10-inch loom is about half the price of the next lowest-priced one, and it has a second heddle block built-in. I got it and wanted to know everything I could do on it because you can do almost any small project on the loom. So, I got this book, and it's perfect! If you buy a small rigid heddle loom and want to make the most of it, THIS is the book to get! It covers the basics of weaving on a small rigid heddle loom, and covers everything! It shows how to weave plain fabric, how to use a second heddle to make some more complicated fabrics, how to do tapestry, how to do inkle weaving (to make narrow bands or belts or straps) and everything you can do on any small loom, and how to do them on a rigid heddle loom. But it goes on into territory that I didn't even know was possible, and shows bead weaving and how to weave with wire! The last project in the book even shows you how to weave textiles that incorporate lights, wires, and power sources! It shows you how to dress your loom, how to weave, and how to troubleshoot any problems you might have. There isn't a lot of projects on any one topic because they cover so many kinds of weaving, but there's at least one project for each, and they cover the how-to with all the basics. This is a great book for the basics, and to show you the scope of a small rigid heddle loom. This is the perfect book for me to use this loom most effectively right now! I'm delighted!

A nice reference book
This book is an interesting mix of beginners tips (with a section called “tech support”) and seemingly complicated solutions. Or maybe it just seems that way to me since I’m new to it! I do like the photos of each way you could be messing up your project. Either way, I feel confident in using this as a first timer’s reference book. I also enjoyed the bright colors used- sometimes when it’s all pastel you have to wonder if the author assumes we all live in Florida… Anyway, there are several projects to weave (pillow covers and kitchen towels in addition to traditional scarves) and advice on choosing yarn and equipment, and suggestions for weaving techniques. Overall I’d say the projects were the best part of it, because normally what I see are things I’m not interested in making, but these photos were pretty inspiring.

Impressive new book on small loom weaving
This is a terrific well written book with clear photos, helpful instructions and hints for users of rigid heddle looms. I particularly appreciate the many trouble shooting sections. Those of us trying to learn how to use our looms without the help of experienced weavers to advise, will find ways to correct almost any "boo boo" in these pages. On top of that, there's lots of project inspiration, color theory and instructions for different ways to weave. I just took up weaving, with some trepidation, as the other rigid heddle weaving books I got from the library often confused me with incomplete instructions meant for serious weavers. This one, however, is so packed full of good stuff, so affirming and instructive for beginners and experienced alike, that after looking it through I ordered it immediately. I'm using it and weaving already! My first practice piece on a little Cricket loom [like on the cover] was a bit wobbly, but by applying what I learned in this book, my second scarf turned out much better and I'm starting on my third project. I'm really enjoying my new hobby.

Great book for the rigid heddle
This is one of my favorite books on starting out Rigid heddle weaving if I had to pick only one book in my library specifically for using a rigid heddle to weaving this would be the one that said it isn't a project book it's more of a manual type book edit to note I have the physical copy not sure I'd recommend a digital one

An essential reference for rigid-heddle weavers
An essential and comprehensive resource for rigid heddle loom weavers at every level from beginner to advanced. "Inventive Weaving on a Little Loom" covers everything from how to warp your loom and the basics of weaving for beginners, to the complexities of weaving patterns with pick-up sticks or two or even three heddles for more advanced weavers. The author covers how to choose colors, change weft yarns, and a variety of ways finish your ends. She discusses using different types and materials of yarn, including handspun yarn and painted yarns. There’s even a section on fixing your loom if something breaks. It’s clearly written, with step-by-step photos and diagrams throughout. I borrowed this book from the library to reinforce the basics after an initial lesson in weaving on a rigid heddle loom, and to assess it as a long-term resource. After reading it straight through, I was sold, and ordered a copy of my own. (Review first published on The Bookwyrm’s Hoard blog)

Are you even thinking about taking up weaving? Then buy this book first!
From the new weaver, to the weaver who wants a little more from the experience, this book really opens up the potential of the rigid heddle loom. It begins with all the information that a beginner weaver needs, from selecting a loom, getting a warp on and starting that first weave, right up to finishing off and everything in between, including what to do if something goes wrong. There are plenty of good, clear photographs or diagrams on every page that give a clear demonstration each step of the way. From there on, the sky’s the limit! From jazzing up a plain weave with colour and yarn placement, to using finger manipulation techniques or a pick-up stick, from using one heddle, to using two, or even three heddles, this book has you covered. Not only does this book show you how to master many techniques, it also includes some beautiful patterns to start you on the road to discovering just what these looms can do. This book has something of every rigid heddle loom weaver!
