They may stay compressed inside your pack, but if you hang the bag on the outside, by the straps, they will loosen as you walk. They compress very well and it's all ways nice to have a little extra room if needef. So if it was me I'd just go with the 20. I've done as little as 4pr socks and underwear with a jacket and it compressed fine. The biggest load was a -20 bag but was a very tight fit. However I would not use this item on the outside side of my pack for it is very thin. This bag is extremely waterproof. The compression + venting make it ideal for packing tight. You can really pull down on the straps to get the contents small. It works well for clothes, sleeping bags, food, tents, and other items that need to be protected / organized. This Ultra-Sil bag is slightly less durable than the original eVent compression - but I like this version better.
